It is very cool that you can have a taste and learn about these countries being represented in these small cottages. For example, during the December nights, they will have stands with their traditional food that you can buy, and some of them will also have traditional shows. Most likely they will have something going on during their national days for you to experience it here in Balboa Park!
We went for the Chinese New Year! The China House had crafts for the kids and kind people working to talk to ❤️
This was a cool area to display different cultures! Each house is a different nation with its own unique artifacts and decoration on the inside. There are people in each house that are happy to answer any questions and represent their country, and some of the houses offer treats. They all accept donations to help keep the place running.
Although the houses were closed it was still a great experience getting to walk around the area and learn from the outside displays about each country and their cultures! 🙌🏾 Love showing our children what the 🌍 has to offer beyond our little bubble.
The house of pacific relations international cottages is a must visit if you are there on a weekend that they are having an open house event. It is incredibly cool to see all these “countries” coming together in a model-UN sort of way. Many have exhibits of cultural items, some sell food and some have free tea or coffee. Almost everyone is a volunteer and they will be happy to talk as much (or as little) as you want about their country. It’s such a cool experience and you will learn something and have fun doing it!
The Hall of Nations is the home of the House of Pacific Relations, which is the umbrella group for all the International Houses, including the House of Sweden, to which I belong. They do a great job organizing special events such as December Nights.
We attended the Annual food fest and it was so fun, the food was great, you get a taste of each house.
Houses have a lot of cool little freebies to offer, and the people that make up the houses are quite friendly.
I really liked everyone I spoke to in each cottage, the Germans were cold and snarled a little when I walked in, but that made it feel authentic!
