Awesome experience with the paper marbling workshop
I love this place! The store has top notch selection without being overwhelming and the classes are always a blast. The staff is super knowledgeable about their craft, will always lend a hand, and are a deeply empathetic group of humans. We are so lucky to have this community space ❤️
The triple threat of Loft Lit Center, Open Book, and Milkweed Editions made this building a place of constant quirky events would wouldn't see elsewhere until the last few years where greed has taken over a bit. Readings which used be free have changed to $10-$20 a pop at the Loft. Former wall to wall people Open Book openings now are lucky to get a dozen, thanks to an $8 charge for wine and beer which used to be hosted (highly illegal by the way without an alcohol license), and the downgrading of apps to vegi and dip trays. The halcyon days of MCBA are long over.
A truly inspiring shop with a great selection of artists’ books, prints, and unique finds. It's been a joy working with them and we're thrilled to have our Botanopia kits featured in such a meaningful space!
The set up is very creative and very very nice. The shop is full of trinkets for bookworms and artists. The little zine exhibit there during my visit was great.
Great makerspace for book artists, library, gathering place for writers, and a nice little gift shop. Added bonus: Milkweed Press!
Loved visiting this place. A center for book arts featuring a museum, some small exhibits, a weaving shop, a nice coffee shop, study snd writing space and various workshops! There is also a nice shop with a lot of made in Minnesota items.
Truthfully, I visited because I heard about the gift shop from social media and was blown away. The shop features a ton of local artists, and artists from marginalized communities. They have a huge selection of zines, prints, and greeting cards. I ended up getting four greeting cards and two stickers, but I would've absolutely gone home with more if my bank account allowed for it.
Tried going to the MBCA store to buy some supplies and see what's new as I have many times before. For some reason, the door was locked with a sign saying we had to wait to get in. There were all of 2 or 3 people shopping and a staff member inside. It made NO sense and the staffer simply ignored those of us at the door (2 parties of 3 people total). We waited 5-10 minutes and decided to go to Wet Paint for supplies since they don't play games with customers.
