We chose RockAway to remodel our small home when it was necessary to move my elderly dad in with us. Mr. Thombs is extremely skilled at taking our small space and making it handicap accessible and a much more energy efficient, usable space for all of us. The project included remodeling both bathrooms, adding a pantry and two large storage cabinets, replacing carpet with vinyl flooring and new carpet, attic insulation and Hardie siding to the outside and trim work. The workers were excellent, I never worried about them being in our home even if we were not able to be present. The lock box on the door is very convenient for them and the homeowner. A few years later, they installed vinyl double hung windows to our home. We are thrilled with them - the windows have made the house much more quiet from outside noise, are easy to clean and have helped with heating and cooling. We recommend The RockAway Company to anyone we know who needs any type remodeling and are planning to use them again for our kitchen remodel.

Called to get beams installed on our 16' ceiling.. Sent out Geoff & he did a awesome job. We called 6 other people that left us hanging. Should have called Rockaway first! Will use them again..

Appreciated Rockaway Disaster Services so much. Everyone was so nice and professional, I've been dealing with an illness and have trouble walking... Having this casualty happen to my house could have been overwhelming, but these folks did all they could to make it as easy on me as possible!

This was our third experience with Rockaway. As usual, they were professional and completed the work when scheduled. There were a few 'hiccups' -carpet had slashes inside the roll. We were kept informed of these problems so we could adjust as needed. The job was completed on the new timeline and a cleaning crew took care of the construction mess although the daily contractors cleaned also. John stopped by often to check the progress and being detail-oriented, did more clean up!

We had Rockaway do a complete remodel of our hall bathroom. The overall work was acceptable until the paint on our cabinets started peeling off. I contacted them and they agreed that the cabinets weren't prepped correctly prior to painting. As a result the paint didn't adhere to the cabinet surfaces. Since this work was still under warranty I requested they honor the warranty and redo the work on the cabinets. Immediately the owner of the company started telling me that he told me it wasn't going to work and that the only solution was to replace the doors and drawers and that would be up to me to do. He never informed me that he felt the painting of the cabinets would be an issue but rather willingly included the refinishing of my cabinets and specifically mentions the sanding, prepping, and painting in the scope of work for the job. I asked him why would he knowingly agree to do work for a customer that he felt would be of poor quality. No explanation. He offered to touch up the areas with some paint...that was his solution. I said that wasn't a solution to the problem, only a band-aid. His suggested solution only underscores his willingness to disregard quality work to make a buck and to offer a warranty that is worthless. He had a few additional comments and then hung up. With so many other contractors in the D/FW area I would highly recommend you pass on this company. = = = = Response to Barry Thombs: Regardless of this "he said,, I said" conversation, Barry wrote a contract that said he would sand, prep, and paint our cabinets. He gave a 5 year warranty on his work and now he refuses to stand behind his work. He never added any qualifiers or rider statements to his contract that would exclude the painting from being covered. There are many things in his response that are incorrect but those reading his reply will sense the overall tone of his response. It is very much in keeping with the way he is willing to treat his customers if he has an issue with you. I did have him do our master shower. I decided to go with him BEFORE the paint started peeling. My daughter has some mobility issues so we were changing our shower to a curbless shower. Yes it would have been best to have had the whole master bath floor redone at the same time. We simply didn't have the money at the time. Yet he pressured and pressured to let him do it all....more money for him. I asked that the showerhead be at a specific height and when it was 6 inches lower, he got furious when I asked him to raise it. (He only had to move the shower head once.) Asked me, can't you make do with that? Then the shower head leaked water in the wall and they had to remove the sheetrock behind it to fix it...took them three times to fix the leak. The only people on either of these projects I dealt with were Barry and his project manager. I had no dealings with the tradesmen.
