I've been a member since I moved to Portland back in 2013. I've always received friendly service. They have a decent selection given the size of the space. It's great to support a place/organization that really cares about its community.
The bulk selection is very good - I especially like the honey and oil options they offer in bulk. They also carry oat milk which is appreciated for my son and his allergies to dairy. Other selections are small, though, and the incentives (discounts, member specials, etc) to join the co-op are highly disappointing.
May 21st around 1:45 pm - 2 pm I came into the store. This store by far, is extremely bigoted. I have come into the store on a couple different occasions, 2 to be exact. I must say the atmosphere is very strange! On this occasion, during an event on Alberta Street; I brought my niece, who is a beautiful 13 yr old De La Salle honor roll student and the owner just starred 👀 at us the whole time! I mean she was just fixated on us like we were going to grab something and just run. My husband and I make a pretty substantial amount of money, I have the ability to afford anything that I need. My look is what people would describe as very classy and elegant, my niece is as pretty and well put together as they come, so it’s not like we had “that look” if you know what I mean lol... Which really is the bizarre aspect of this situation. I will not return to this store; the owner knows she is racist so why would you bring your establishment to an urban area, and then make the black customers feel uncomfortable. What kind of sense does that make? This is my city, born and raised, I personally do not think this store is good for the well-being of the community. To add insult to injury, they have the nerve to have a “BLACK LIVES MATTER” sign! WHAT???? Give me a break!
I really enjoyed the store but felt incredibly uncomfortable being watched so closely by one of the employees. Maybe it’s the neighborhood? It was not nice being stared at like I was a thief simply because she didn’t recognize me. (My first time there.) I purchased quite a few items but I don’t know if I’ll go back again. Natural Grocers is just down the street and I feel safe there.
Interesting natural food market that is very vegan and local business oriented, but also has organic and humanely treated meat products for carnivores like me. I really hope the concept behind this store spreads and becomes more common. The produce quality here is top notch, too.
Beautiful store! I got a vegan cheddar scone and a vegan pasta salad and both were delicious. I appreciate that they stay open til 10pm.
The bulk spice and herb section is fantastic value, and I love that I don’t have to get those small jars from big corporations at large grocery stores anymore! Lots of local and organic choices, like a honey from the Northeast Portland Concordia neighborhood just a few miles away. Their special offers are great, too. Love all around!
Awesome little grocery store. Often they have items I can’t find in the mega-stores, and they’re actually locally owned. Unlike a *certain* supermarket. I really enjoy that almost all local products are clearly labeled along with labels for dietary restrictions. The produce is usually in great condition, and very rarely do I end up with sad/moldy fruits.
local food coop owned by the local neighborhood. Lots of selections, fresh produce, lots of bulk spice, and other. Good for local products as well, never a long wait, get in and get out. Love the selection of local products, wine to honey, lots of good bulk products, and helf supplements. A bit of everything, they still want you to wear a mask.
passing through Portland and forgot some essentials, this co-op really saved me in a pinch! if anything, you must check out their bulk section. they have these little pieces of soap ends that were perfect for my short stay, plus tons of liquid soaps to fill up travel-sized bottles
