This is a great experience - highly recommend! Chris was knowledgeable, engaging, friendly, accommodating, and genuinely interested in making sure everyone in our 25-person group had fun. Like me, you may have lived in Detroit your entire life, but you're sure to learn many things you didn't know.
The tour we took with our company (Buro Happold) was incredible! It re-framed our perspective on Detroit. It was valuable to see the neighborhoods through the eyes of local entrepreneurs and community advocates. Our work in the city is now more meaningful and aligned to the place, and we are so grateful!
The City Institute team and Chris C helped us plan a customized one-day tour of Detroit. On the initial call prior to the trip, Chris listened to what we wanted to learn and see. For our particular group consisting of business owners from across North America, we wanted to learn about the city's history, culture, diverse businesses and vibrant technology hubs. Chris then reached out to different organizations that could demonstrate and showcase these aspects, then formulated our customized itinerary. Our experience with City Institute was phenomenal! Chris worked with us to create a personalized tour that introduced our medical students and staff to the Detroit community. Our tour guides (Sonal and Kathy) were extremely knowledgeable, and their stories and insights provided a context so that we gained a deeper understanding of the history of the city. I have no doubt that our experience with City Institute advanced the education of our students and gave them a greater appreciation for the community that they serve.

The City Institute offered a tour de force. Jeanette's awareness of the multi-faceted nature of Detroit's history made this one of the best tours I've taken of a city. She provided a context for buildings that included not only an awareness of architecture and design, but also the history and motivations of builders and architects. She was effective at explaining what made development projects in Detroit distinct and maintained a balanced approach to the city's challenges. Wow. We cannot stop talking about how wonderful this tour was, our tour guide was really the perfect person to show us around. She had so much knowledge and enthusiasm for Detroit, and for helping people fall in love with and understand all things Detroit. Her knowledge of what is happening now and the history, neighborhood by neighborhood business by business was incredibly helpful. We have taken away so much from a personal and business standpoint. Anna really was the heart of the experience. Also worth noting, our driver Alex was fantastic and contributed to the caliber of the experience. They made a great team. I would highly recommend this experience to any individuals or companies looking to relocate to Detroit or traveling here and want to see and hear about Detroit from a local point of view.
