Sat there waiting for 3 hours. Just to be brought to the back & told I couldn't receive help. But wanted me to give a 5 star review. Absolutely NOT!
After weeks of reaching out to Philly Tenant, L&I, Fair Housing I was't given one piece of solid advice or help, instead, not one organization even considered helping (or doing their jobs). It was not until I reached out to a City official that I knew and asked for any help, as I was lost. Her colleague texted me everyday, as did she, to ensure things were moving forward, and soon connected me with Jacob from CLS. He was amazing, caring, understanding, blunt and honest regarding my case and offered to represent me for a Fair Housing hearing 2 weeks away. He also connected me with Ms. Tiffany to handle my Municipal Case. Tiffany was amazing and knew my case before even speaking. She was blunt, forward and honest regarding HR determination of outcome ( which is what I needed) and gave me her legal advice. I agreed and that same day Tiffany and Jacob worked until after 6PM to work on an agreement and come to a reasonable outcome for all parties. If you ever have either of them representing you, trust them. I couldn't be more grateful.
Good evening Google family. I visited today to take care of a business matter. Enrique was the paralegal who assisted me. I received assistance and everyone was congenial. I did a bit of networking with Tanya who was sitting at the front desk. They have many individual offices and a clean restroom. I completed my business and I left. I did my workout dance for the security staff. Have a good night, workout, be healthy, fit and Fabulous.
I've used community legal services twice in the past, once for a tenant/landlord issue (landlord wanted to sell property and gave me 16 days to move) and once for a custody issue, both times CLS were able to help and received favorable outcomes in court,CLS helped me get 6 months to move and obtain custody of my niece (which was a 2 year process not due to CSL but the court system). The process of dealing with Philly Courts isnt fast or easy, so you need patience and you may need to spend a few hours for each appt but totally worth it.
Gives vague information and waits weeks later to send you the information you spoke about on the phone in a email they promise then immediately closes the case before answering any questions you may have. PLA doesn't follow the same state Laws as CLS which the law should be the law. You try to contact both offices to get them to coordinate to see what's legal or not the receptionist tells you " We Never told PLA to contact you " As if this matters and you never get a return call.
They do not maintain the hours or provide the services advertised on their website or Instagram. I called and asked if I could come in to speak with someone about making sure my student loans were okay before the changes on July 1st and I was instructed to come into walk in hours. When I arrived, the same man that told me to come into walk in hours asked me the same questions and told me that CLS cannot help me. When I mentioned he had instructed me to come in for walk in hours, he told me that he’s going to send me up anyways. When I and another client arrived for walk in hours there were 4-6 people in the waiting area chatting. 2-3 of those people disappeared when I and this other client walked in. The receptionists (and office manager apparently) seemed confused as to why we were there. I was asked if I’m being sued and I explained my situation and that CLS had been suggested to me for this reason, they laughed and said, “yeah, the city sends us people like candy. I don’t know why” Don’t waste your time
1/11/2026: Dude at the front desk needs to mind his attitude when talking to people. Also if you’re closed put that on the website! I just came all the way downtown for nothing Update 1/20/2026: Have gone again and the same dude was there but he was nicer. Informed me that they only do intakes on Monday-Thursday (which doesn’t match the website or the sign they have on the door) and they only take 5 cases a day. Update 1/22/2026: Went again. Got there before they even opened up. The guy let me come in at 8:24, and he was just about to have me fill out the paperwork when someone came along and informed him that they were closing intakes today. BEFORE THEY EVEN OPENED! Like im sorry that’s extremely unprofessional of them. And im getting tired of having to travel downtown just to be there for 5 minutes and told i can’t to a lawyer! Will update when i try again😪
Lydia Ellsworth is one of the attorneys at Community Legal Services and by far she’s the worst attorney I’ve ever used. She doesn’t represent the defendants at all. She just gets you to agree to the terms with the other party and doesn’t present anything you inform her to present even with you having full proof. It took her up to the week of the court date to call us and get information to be able to present in court only because we contacted her boss. She doesn’t represent defendants at all.
What a joke! None of the phone prompts take you to employment issues intake! It just takes you to a recorded message that says you are calling outside of business hours which is not true because I just spoke to the operator who transferred to another extension and gave me an incorrect prompt to use once I was connected! WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU GUYS?
