I received a $300 bill from iRhythm weeks after wearing their Zio patch for what amounts to basic heart monitoring, and the entire experience feels like a classic healthcare rip-off. First, there was zero transparency. The patch was placed during a doctor’s visit and nothing was explained about a separate company billing me later. Like most patients, I assumed it was part of the visit. Instead, weeks later a bill arrives from iRhythm demanding hundreds of dollars for something I never knowingly agreed to purchase from them. Second, let’s talk about the product itself. The Zio patch is essentially a small adhesive heart monitor that records rhythm data. That’s it. There’s no groundbreaking technology here. Consumer devices like Garmin, Apple Watch, and other wearables already track heart rhythm continuously and alert users to irregularities. Yet iRhythm charges hundreds — sometimes thousands — of dollars for a disposable patch that likely costs a fraction of that to manufacture. This is not advanced life-saving hardware requiring expensive infrastructure. It’s a simple adhesive ECG recorder paired with software analysis. The idea that this device ends up costing patients hundreds of dollars is difficult to justify. At its core, this is a disposable electronic patch performing a straightforward function that modern consumer electronics already provide. The real issue is the billing model. Patients are not given meaningful choice or price transparency. The device is placed during a medical appointment, and only later does the separate company appear with a bill. That’s not how ethical consumer transactions should work. Healthcare companies should be held to a higher standard of transparency and fairness. Charging hundreds of dollars for what amounts to a disposable monitoring patch — while failing to clearly disclose the cost up front — is exactly the kind of opaque pricing that erodes trust in the healthcare system.

Had questions that were not addressed via any of the phone tree options, despite trying three phone numbers (all leading to the same useless tree.) Impossible to reach a person to get an answer . I have used this device before and it does its function well but total lack of personal interface despite multiple attempts is unacceptable. Will be reporting this to my electrophysiologist.

I used the product and it worked fine but before using the product, I call them to ask them how much it would cost. They said they were unable to give me an estimate, but don’t worry Insurance would cover the majority of it. I received my bill and it was $459. I called them back and said insurance covered very little of it. I told him that this is more than I was expecting to pay and was misled by the first representative I spoke to. I then asked them what the cash pay rate would’ve been and they said it would have been about $350. I told them I’m not happy about it, but would would be willing to pay the cash pay rate. They said no. be careful about using them because it’s going to be very expensive.

I WOULD RATHER HAVE A HEART ATTACK THAN GO THROUGH THE NIGHTMARE OF DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY! NICOLE S. the supervisor is the most unprofessional, rude, and snarky rep I have ever dealt with and should be FIRED. First of all it is impossible to get thought to a human being, either for questions about the monitoring device or for billing. I spect hours and hours in phone menu loops and talking to AI only to be disconnected. They didn't provide me with the proper documentation for my health ins. company and so they delayed the process and made it much more difficult to pay the bill. I couldn't get in touch with anyone for help or to explain and when I finally did they simply refused to help and sent my bill to a DEBT COLLECTION SERVICE even though I told them it is going through the process with the insurance company and will be paid in 60 days. So now they and the collection agency are HARASSING ME DAILY. I have never had an issue paying bills before in my life. I have no control over the ins companies process. They run their company like a cut-throat corporation that wants to extort you for exorbitant amounts of money. And this is supposed to be a HEALTH CARE service!!! Moreover the product is cheap and incredibly uncomfortable and difficult to use and, in my opinion, unreliable! Get out of the business so someone humane can do the job and provide the care people really need.
