I had Sunsmart install Solar panels on my house about 6 years ago, and recently decided to add a battery back up and possibly more solar panels. I guess this project wasn’t big enough to make a good profit and they try to blame the SMA rep for not responding. The communication and follow through with this company is horrible. Months go by without a call back. You would think they would step up to the plate and service a customer that they already had done business with before, and made money from. Needless to say I won’t be recommending them to anyone I come into contact with. I had some issues with my solar installation before, but they did make it right after my bugging them for months to come fix the mistakes, and damage they caused. I wouldn’t recommend this company.
Don’t waste your time! I’ve been calling and emailing them for over a month now with no response!!! They installed the panels we have 8 years ago. My insurance is replacing our roof so I need them to remove my panels and put them back. I call and the people that answer the phone take my info and “will have someone call me” I called again this morning with the same result. I called 2 hours ago and haven’t heard back. They also always say “for quick response email is at info@“ I’ve done that multiple times. NO RESPONSE. Clearly once the system is on your house they could care less about you. I also had a different incident where I asked them to inspect my panels to make sure everything was working properly. The technician showed up early to beat the rain coming, but then DIDNT EVEN GET ON MY ROOF. I had to call back to the office and ask if he was going to come back another time. He did but I have no idea what was even done if anything. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.
I received three bids to install solar on my house, SunSmart was one of them. It was easy to schedule an appointment and the salesman arrived on time. He was very nice and seemed reasonably knowledgeable. His pitch was primarily directed at selling me on solar in general rather than on their particulars though. Since I was already decided on solar and was just shopping for an install, it was mostly wasted on me. There are three big reasons that I didn't choose SunSmart: 1. They use economy solar panels. Don't believe the "tier one" rating, that refers to the economic stability of the panel manufacturer, not the panels themselves. Now, there isn't necessarily anything wrong with using economy panels if they are priced accordingly but... 2. They are more expensive than competitors. Their quoted price was nearly 25% higher than the other two bids that I received and this was for a smaller wattage system (due to less efficient economy solar panels). 3. You pay a premium for financing. SunSmart will offer you financing at a fantastic rate with fantastic terms but you will pay for it. The salesman told me I could have the same system for ~$4k less if I paid cash (this price was still higher than my other two bids). I can't comment on their installation or service after the sale but their proposal left me very unimpressed. The key takeaway here is to make sure you get multiple bids if you are considering any major project!
I contracted with them to install in 2017. During the install they had several people on the roof of my 100 year old house. I heard a loud noise during install. After one of the people mentioned that they heard a board pop so I might want to check. I noticed a leak a couple of months later. After checking in the dormer attic I discovered the broken truss that caused the roofing to crack and leak. When I called to report the problem they sent out a guy who didn't even check in my opinion and stated it wasn't their problem. Of course that is what any corrupt contractor would claim. Shame on them I am 73 years old with a leaky roof and lacking the funds to repair it properly. I would not hire this company again!
I got their system about 8 years ago... Now it has broken and they will not answer their phone or their email. There address in North KC is held by someone else and their website shows an address in west bottoms... that building is empty... I tried yesterday and it was being gutted.
3rd year, I jumped the gun a little and got a 6 Kwh system for my home takes care of about only 50% of my annual electric bill. Last October I called Sunsmart, because my Eguage that tells me how much energy I was creating didn't match what KCPL was giving me credit for, NO RESPONSE! from the service tech. Got my furnace and AC replaced thinking that this would help, no luck. Called Monday to get help and mentioned what happened last year and they said that tech no longer worked for them. Good new, I thought this one should be better! Chris called me said send him the KCPL data that shows over the last 12 months KCPL has only credited me for 3.5Kwh. he recommended calling KCPL too. I did right away and found that the meter is reading accurately on their end. I tried calling Chris back, no answer! called sunsmart left message no call back since. This has got to be the worst feeling in the world, your warranty is only as good as the company providing the service. I will hire an electrician and/or a solar installer and back charge the company or take them to court. I don't like being scammed! Be careful dealing with them, or be safe and find a more reputable place to spend your hard earned dollars.update 2024 August just up on my roof again to find 3 shattered panels they stated that they were pretty much indestructible, they have yet to answer the phone or return my email inquiry
Austin, After further discussion and reflection, due to SunSmart Technologies owner, Carlo, and his lack of concern to respond satisfactorily to our numerous previous efforts to resolve outdated EGUAGE equipment (2016 model production) and improper installation, my wife and I have decided to report this incident to the Better Business Bureau. Our previous email and phone conversations have not resulted in the proper resolution steps, due to SunSmart Technology’s deceptive business practices. Due to SunSmart Technology’s lack of email or voice mail response the past 6 months, we retained Invictus, a 3rd party independent solar company to inspect your installation and equipment. Invictus determined with pictures and verbal contact with EGUAGE manufacturer, that SunSmart Technologies did in fact, install OUTDATED (2016 model EGUAGE equipment) and thus, OUT OF WARRANTY equipment improperly. This equipment should have carried a 2 year warranty and would have been covered normally. Due to SunSmart’s deceptive business practices that included out of warranty parts being installed as new and improper installation per manufacturer procedures, voided any warranty and has resulted in unnecessary out of pocket expenses to us. We should be entitled to a new, properly installed EGUAGE meter immediately and be totally reimbursed for Invictus charges that were necessary due to lack of due diligence/ negligence on the part of SunSmart. You should be notified in writing by BBB as well this week. We are also prepared to reach out to FOX 4 Problem Solvers this week with full disclosure, documents and pictures. As you recall from our previous email and conversations, I have given SunSmart Technologies every opportunity to take proper corrective resolution steps and yet I have no ability to visually monitor my $50,000 SunSmart Solar system? I don’t think the Kansas City community will want to do business with you when they see and hear this customer’s current views of how Carlo and SunSmart Technologies does business. The ball is in your court, December 15. 2023 is less than 2 weeks away… 1) BBB complaint filed 2) Local news media will be notified 3) Social media will reflect negative SunSmart reviews 4) Small Claims Court case for total reimbursement will be filed in Jefferson County Kansas
SunSmart installed a quality solar system for my home in December and I have been sooo pleased with the entire process. The paperwork was easy, got a great rate on financing, answered all of my millions of questions, kept me updated on progress, install crew was friendly, and final product is awesome- fun to watch the electricity generated vs usage on my mobile. Couldn't be happier!
SunSmart's bid was the only one I received - I signed up for solar panels during my first meeting with their sales rep. In hindsight, that was a mistake. I was too eager and didn't hear clearly that I couldn't fit enough solar panels to completely offset my power bill. The sales rep was friendly and helpful, answering all of my questions. He wanted to put a sign up in my front lawn that touted the power bill savings from the solar panels, months before I was even scheduled to have them installed. I let him put it up but took it down the next day, letting him know I'd put it up after I actually *had* some savings. It didn't take too long (3-6 months) for me to be worked into their schedule. There were some delays due to HOA rules that I had to deal with. SunSmart was helpful in dealing with that. At some point after the install was scheduled, I got some serious cold feet. I just didn't think the average 40% savings per month was going to be worth what I was going to pay for the panels (still don't). I had tried reaching out to my sales rep a few times prior to this, but he did not respond. It was only after I'd called and said I want out that he got back to me same day. I ended up proceeding with the installation, which leads me to my other major complaint. My second biggest gripe was with the installation process. The installers ended up running a conduit up from the solar power gear on the side of the house, over the roof to the panels. They did this because they didn't trust the condition of my roof to put the conduit in the attic. It would have been much better had they told me the true condition of my roof and have me address that first. Fortunately, I found a solid roofing company with a great project manager (Manny from DHI Roofing) who was able to get my insurance company to pay for a new roof and to have the solar panels properly reinstalled. Had that not happened, I would have been stuck with an eyesore going over my house for years. I have had no doubts about the equipment itself and have had no problems with the output of the panels. They are working exactly as advertised. My only qualms were the hurried nature of the premature advertising and the lack of proper advisement from their installers.
Sunsmart is a very caring, considerate company. I had a few concerns and Levon Pogosov helped me all the way through the process. It wasn't his job to make sure everything was working right, but he sure took the time and made me feel like I was the only customer. If you have questions, they WILL work with you until it is fixed and you are satisfied. Thank you Sunsmart for having an employee like Levon!
