So great and reasonable pricing too. We had a breakfast there yesterday. Gavone breakfast (or anytime) sandwich, Greased Pole Latte, chocolate croissant. Fantastic. We signed up for discount points too!
This rating is mainly for the cannoli, there were many other offerings that looked amazing that we didn’t try. Stopped in and ordered a cannoli and salted caramel gelato. The gelato was very good, creamy and tasty. The cannoli was made to order and was very fresh, large and filled nicely. The cream was dense and more of the ricotta side and not very sweet. The display cases were filled with beautiful looking goodies and the staff were fast and friendly. Prices were very good at $4 for the cannoli. This place was really good and we would go back if on 9th street.
We visited Anthony's on a late fall afternoon to sample their famous gelato with a friend who's a gelato connoisseur. Collectively we inhaled 7 of their flavors. Lemoncello, Salted Caramel and Stracciatella were our favorites. It was impressive to watch the server pack 3 hefty scoops into 1 tiny cup without a drip. We ate at their small outdoor table. There is a cozy dining room if you want to eat in. Our friend enjoyed their gelato so much that she braved a rainstorm the next day to buy a sampler for a dinner party. We revisited in spring 2024 and enjoyed the hot chocolate and Italian cookies.
Fantastic old-school Italian coffee and candy shop. I have had the lattes, candies, gelato, and picked up some coffee for home. With their friendliness, atmosphere, and tasty treats, you can't go wrong!
Wow. I ate breakfast here two days in a row during my visit to Philly. The breakfast sandwiches are great (love the Tuscan egg white on brioche - the Gavone is also good but can be a little heavy). The sfogiatella isn’t as crispy and flaky as the one I had in Naples but it does the job. The pistachio cannoli though - heavenly. Staff is friendly. Highly recommend sitting outside while enjoying your morning coffee.
I have a strong suspicion that Anthony's business has changed hands. Every winter, my wife and I would patronize Anthony's for their delicious breakfast and chocolate. However, today's experience was vastly different from what we've grown accustomed to, leaving us thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed. The customer service has deteriorated significantly. Previously, we were attended to by professional adults who provided excellent service. Now, the establishment seems to be staffed by inexperienced young individuals with an unpleasant attitude. The food quality has also taken a turn for the worse. For instance, the eggs taste overly processed, and their shape suggests they're cooked in a mold rather than on the grill. The sandwiches no longer come with sufficient bacon, and the chocolate-filled bread lacks adequate chocolate filling. Furthermore, they've replaced Heinz ketchup with the cheaper French's alternative. Honestly, we no longer believe it's worth returning to this establishment, which is unfortunate, given it was our favorite. I also suspect that the business may have been acquired by new ownership, unfortunately, this often results in a decline in product quality. It raises questions as to why changes were necessary in the first place, considering the product was excellent and the food was rich. Was it not sufficient replacing the previous staff with younger individuals and pay them lower wages?
The pistachio drinks tested like almond more than pistachio and the cannolis was bad as well. Peppermint hot chocolate is soso. Would not come back
Gelatos 10/10 best chocolate gelato Atmosphere 10/10 sooo cozy Service? 0/10 This was a very disappointing experience. It is my first time in Philadelphia, and I came all the way from Florida based on a friend’s recommendation to this place. Unfortunately, the service did not meet expectations. The staff member, Kara, clearly needs more training in customer service and empathy. From the moment I arrived, her attitude was unwelcoming, with constant bad facial expressions that made it seem like she didn’t enjoy her job. If someone is having a bad day or doesn’t like what they do, I can understand that, but as a customer, I should not be treated poorly because of it. I always tip, but this time I honestly did not feel the service deserved it. I hope this feedback helps improve future customer experiences.
Great spot! Looking forward to going back for a proper espresso. Had the affogato, cannoli and sea salt caramel. Yummmmmmy. So many sweets but still a balanced part of my daily calories. All of the treats were better than expected. Great location inn the heart of the Italian markets. Very friendly to boot.
The products are really nice and reasonably priced. The ice cream isn't exactly like authentic Italian gelato, but it's a great value for the price — same goes for the coffee. It's also a nice touch that they offer free water. However, the staff could use some improvement. One of the women serving ice cream wasn’t very friendly. The staff member with glasses was better, but overall, a more welcoming attitude is important in the service industry. A bit of training could make the experience much better.
