Once upon a time I had a credit card compromised and wanted to change the credit card attached to the account. Their website is garbage so I had to call in to change it. I sat on hold for hours until they informed me that they were closing for the day and to call back the next day. I did and waited for hours again to speak with someone who couldn't figure out how to change the credit card on the account. I sat on hold while they periodically checked on me to see if I'd given up until finally informing me that they were closing for the day. I asked if they could credit my bill until THEY figured THEIR problem. I reminded them that I'd been a customer for 3 years at that point and had autopay on the whole time so I'd never missed a bill. There's no reason I should continue to be punished for their incompetence. They told me to try again tomorrow. I didn't and for some reason the transaction still went through to my new card. I didn't question it then, because I was tired of trying to work with them. Now, 2 years later, I get an automated call in the morning telling me I'm past due and threatening shut off. They give me no option to pay or speak with anyone and tell me to call back. I call back and navigate through endless automated prompts and there's no way to talk to anyone or change the card on the account, only make a one time payment. I go to their website to find that they've already given me a late charge. So I'll have to call back in and waste likely an hour or more of my time for a grand total of $7.88 IF they clear the charge, which I doubt they will. This is far from my only complaint. Their trash service is supposed to be every week, but doesn't always show. Their recycling service is also supposed to be once a week and they RARELY show. It's gone months at a time without them picking up recycling and when they finally DO come, more often than not they throw the recycling in the trash. When I first moved into my house 5 years ago they said they take ALL recycling. Since then, through process of elimination, I've determined that they don't take glass, most plastics, and nothing that isn't spotless. So here I am having to run to the recycling center even though I pay for a recycling service. I've taken to burning and composting all cardboard, because I don't have room in my container to store it when they're not showing up for weeks. So I'm putting only aluminum and number 1 and 2 plastics through the dishwasher to meet their standards and then they STILL throw it in the garbage. When you call in to report then not coming or throwing your recycling in the trash they deny it. It's purely a waste of time to try and contact them. I took to complaining about it on their corporate Facebook page before I got any help on the matter and I've had to do that multiple times since they're only capable of providing subpar service for a maximum 2 months at a time. And again. Good luck trying to get your account credited when they don't do their job. This company is a racket. They steal from you. I've tried cancelling recycling services since I'm already running the majority of it to the recycling center and they won't let you and they're the only option in the area so there's nothing you can do about it.

My electric bill was $12 for my first 10 days, but the final bill totaled $41 with the fees they charge each month. I don't understand how BPU can justify charging $30+ monthly for unnecessary fees when other utility companies don't. I will be moving from Wyandotte County after this lease specifically because of BPU.

Horrible service, light bill is $300 + every dang month. I work 12hr shifts so I'm hardly at home and my light bill is still extremely high!!!!!!! This is ridiculous!!!!! The residents of Wyandotte need to start a class action lawsuit against BPU. BPU should be out of business for their a55 rates.

Moved into a new place. Electricity was being turned off when I moved in, from a previous tenant. But, they stated that since I had ties to the previous tenant, my ex, I'd be stuck with their past due amount of almost $1000. They want me to pay his past due amount that had nothing to do with me at all, before they will even turn on my electricity in my own name, in my new house I just moved into with a lease in only my name. Even though the previous tenant had moved out BEFORE I signed the lease and moved in. Then on top of that, they will still charge me an additional deposit and a start up connection fee of $75!!! This company is absurd. It's basically winter and I have children in my home. We have no lights, no heat and no way to store or cook food because of this retched place. This is a horrible and heartless company!!!

BPU has gotta be the worst utility service in the KCMetro. I kid you not. Terrible service, slow response time, the start service request is always a headache. Online portal is a chore to navigate. Sucks that all these 1 star ratings don’t affect them because they’re a necessity. No way around BPU, and no alternative. 😑

I've had way better experiences with other electricity companies. The website to pay and view bill online is horrible. Never loads properly on desktop or phone and have to constantly reload to try to get it to work. Fees alone on my bill are almost $100 for a townhome which i think is ridiculous.

This is the most corrupt organization I've ever dealt with. Over charges everything, you forget to make 1 payment and they shut your lights off in the middle of the summer. I'm still amazed how I use less than $100 in electricity and water every month but my bills are never less than $400.

I received wrong information several times since contacting them for new service. Only to get to the office and receive different information which resulted in me not having all the documents they needed. Even after exchanging emails asking exactly what was required before I went down there. Then they had me waiting for over three hours at the home missing work for them NOT to show up even after calling to confirm midway through my block of time. When several of their own customer service people didn't know why I had to be there since utilities already on and it was just a name switch! They kept telling me to stay at home. I was there way before my time and stayed an hour after. Still no one showed up and CS couldn't get dispatch to respond. Very disappointed.

The online bill information format is outdated. The answering system has you pushing buttons, then sending you in circles. WYCO residents should have more options other than BPU. Residents are forced to pay ridiculous prices for necessary services. How is BPU our only forced option?

Watching these guys from afar on 5 hwy in Wolcott/kcks tonight restoring electric for several hours. As a daughter of an IBEW Lineman I absolutely appreciate these guys and don't think they get the credit they deserve.
