It's alright. I ordered the MVP sandwich with the blue cheese, pickled veggies, and bacon potato salad. It was a combination of beef brisket, pulled pork and topped with a smoked sausage on a potato bun. They gave 3 sauces to try I believe that one was regular, a Carolina mustard, and a spicy sauce. The meat was ok but the sausage made it hard to eat the sandwich because of the casing makes you jerk the whole sausage away from the sandwich. I would have probably just put a few medallion slices instead. The pickled veggies were a good pairing to help cut the richness of the sandwich. The prize was the potato salad which was rich. The bacon and blue cheese really shined through. The BBQ is a little fufu and goes away from the traditional dishes. The con is the price. I paid almost $22 for a sandwich combo. Maybe they could just add some traditional plates for a lesser price? I thought it was ok but nothing to scream about. Just my opinion tho.

Woah. In case the photo isn’t enough, maybe the decent lunchtime line length, or the jovial staff, or the in-front-of-your-eyes prep, or the actual taste of the heavenly meats, or the creative sauces (go gold!), or the tasty and zesty sides, or the smoky, spicy aroma outside while you’re on the sidewalk will lure you in. You won’t regret your trip. I came here during my first time in KS. I have no clue if it’s authentic KS BBQ, but after eating it, I don’t care either!

#1 bbq I found on a recent trip to KC and dang those bacon pork belly burnt ends were something special! The turkey was moist and went great with the sauces, and I also had a special pepperoni link they make in house. Chef J really deserves all the accolades they’ve been receiving and I loved my meal there!

We were told this was the best hidden secret! Although the menu was different and very yummy .. I didn’t think it was up to what I think is the best. Don’t get me wrong it was good! The sausages are real meat and very tasty and the turkey was dynamite. I was excited to try the potato salad which had good flavor and very different but it was a bit bland … so was the smoked street corn “elote” … it was bland and needed lime and salt! Cole slaw was very bland as well. Maybe they had an off day who knows. But over all it was good.

Holy smokes, that was some damned fine BBQ!! I've been missing real BBQ since moving up here from TX. We absolutely love it up here, but the BBQ style and quality has left us scratching our heads...sorry. We were in KC for our anniversary and first went to another supposedly legendary, bucket list name that I won't mention and it was frankly insulting to call it BBQ. Chef J, on the other hand, was spectacular!! I've had a fair amount of TX Top 50 BBQ (including Franklin's) and I'd put him right in the mix with the big boys. We got a 2 meat plate of ribs and pork burnt ends to eat on site and then got The Trinity for take-home: Brisket - to steal a line from Matt Pittman, that brisket was "more tender than your mother's love!" Perfect trim, seasoning, and cook giving you that succulent and smoky mouth explosion you expect from brisket. Ribs - probably the best I've ever had...enough said. Cheddar & Jalapeno Sausage - probably the best I've ever had...enough said. Pork Burnt Ends - pretty good. They were just slightly dry with a bit of chew, but very good flavor. Sides and sauces were also excellent! Love what you're doing, brother! We'll be back!!

The line always tells me I am in the right place. 3 meat combo is satisfaction. Nice blend of pepper and sweet on the ribs. Stars of the show are the Bacon Burnt Ends and the Beans!

I had a good experience visiting Chef J's for the first time. I arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and there was no line and most of the menu was still available. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed everything I got for my meal. The smoked elote side was a stand out for me - have never seen that on a menu before and thought it was really tasty. I felt the menu prices were fair for the quality of BBQ they serve. The area the restaurant is in looks pretty rough but felt perfectly safe in the daytime. There was plenty of free parking available at the lot under the bridge at the end of the street.

Wait time: Waited 30 minutes before it opened at noon on Sunday. About 10 groups of people deep in line when I left. The bottleneck is having just one butcher to prepare all the meats. (Another one prepares sides and packaging, and one at the register) Pros: Good sausage, good burnt ends, good elotes, fix-ins with a kick, friendly staff. Cons: No cucumber salad, missing bread, lackluster BBQ sauce

Bucket list Kansas City BBQ... enjoyed the Trinity which comes with ribs, brisket, and sausage, 2 sides (bacon blue cheese potato salad, Mac and cheese), and 2 banana pudding. Fed myself and two teen boys with leftovers.
