DEFINITELY recommend! My wife and I got the 4-meat platter and a half slab of ribs. Probably the best brisket, ribs and sausage I've had at any BBQ restaurant! The pulled pork was juicy and good. The pork belly burnt ends were very tasty but just a tad dry if that's possible. ... no, we did not eat it all. 😜
I have eaten enough BBQ in my life to know that this place has it going on. I'm usually someone who finds a side or 2 that isn't that good. Not here, though. Every side I tried was killer. Great job for Chef J. I can't say enough good things from having it only 1 time. I'll be back for sure!! You must try their banana desert as well.
Came down for First Friday weekend and man was he busy!! My friends got the beef and cheddar sandwich with mac and cheese while I got the turkey w/ cheese and mac&cheese for my side, we both absolutely loved our food and thought it was great! The banana and strawberry pudding is awesome! He is on our first come first serve basis so I suggest getting there early so you can taste everything he has to offer before he sells out 😊
From someone who has been to many KC BBQ joints, this was an underwhelming and mediocre experience. Meats were good, but for the price I was left wanting more. Chipotle Slaw and cucumber salad were unoriginal and unimpressive.
Hands down my new favorite bbq spot in Kc. Only thing we didn’t try was the turkey dinner it was sold out. The sausage was my favorite followed by the ribs. Sides were solid as well.
My boyfriend was super excited to try this place, so we checked it out. He got a 3 meat platter, brisket, burnt ends and sausage with beans and Mac & cheese. The sausage was good, the beans were also good. A little thick of sauce for my liking. I got the pulled pork sandwhich with a side of Mac & cheese as well. We also got an extra side of the elote. All in all, I can say 2 things were good enough to go back for, the elote and the sausage. My boyfriend said the brisket was dry, and so was my pork. The Mac and cheese lacked flavor and sauce. We were pretty disappointed because when we got out of the car and walked up it smelt very promising.
Strayed from the typical Kansas City BBQ spot that you hear about (like KC Joe’s, Q39 etc.) and took a stroll to the West Bottoms for some BBQ. I’d been eyeing the BBQ on the socials for a few weeks and I’ll say what I see on social media is exactly what I got in the restaurant… delicious tender meats with a hint of pepper here and some sweetness there with some of the most delicious sides (Mac & Cheese and Elotes are the clear winners!). Then capped it off with of the best banana pudding I’ve had (sorry Grandma)!
I was at Stockyard BBQ store, which is across the street from Chef J's and found this place on accident. I'm ALWAYS looking to find the BEST BBQ in KC, and today is that day. When you think of BBQ, you don't really think Italian Sausage, well that's about to change. Chef J's sausage isn't just the best in KC, it's one of the best I ever had, and the spare ribs, forgetta bout it, meat fell right off the bone. Both sides were out of this world. Two meat combo, no drink, came to about $25. Service was good, atmosphere was really cool, plenty of parking, and the BBQ is thee best.....The only reason I give this place a four instead of a five is the restroom, the restroom really needs a thorough cleaning. Other than that, definitely check this place out.
The bacon burnt ends are insanely good! Get here early to get your spot in line to make sure they aren’t sold out. Easily a top 3 BBQ spot in KC. Was slightly disappointed in the brisket but everything else including the sides and hospitality were fantastic. Check it out if you’re in west bottoms!
We liked the brisket. The pickle veggies were amazing but the cucumber salad was not good and had an odd flavor profile.
