A KC flavor BBQ with a Texas style bark. Expect smoke in everything including sides. My personal favorite was the very wet brisket, the beans, and the extremely rich banana pudding. We will be back.

We waited in line in the rain and it was worth it. The food was fantastic - all of it. However, what will keep me coming back are the ribs. The ribs were cooked perfectly, not too smoky, and tender but not fall off of the bone. If only one thing, I'm not a fan of the rib tips which were left on. The brisket was moist, smoky and flavorful. The pulled pork was different - it was (black) peppery and I really liked that. The roasted garlic sausage? Delicious. All of our sides were also good. For the entire time we were there, there was a constant line of hungry people. The staff were efficient and got through the line steadily. Can't wait to come back!

Consistently the best BBQ in Kansas City. Brisket is cut to order, thick sliced, and is both juicy and fall-apart tender. Bacon burnt ends are out of this world…so good that they limit the quantity unless you order ahead. Mac and cheese is smooth and creamy, better than your mom’s or grandma’s best recipe. The banana pudding and peanut butter pie are both a perfect finish. My only suggestion is to bring Diet Dr Pepper into the fountain machine! Most BBQ places have off days where the meat just isn’t all that great … have *never* experienced that at Chef J!

Outstanding BBQ! The brisket, smoked ribs, sausage, and all the side dishes were excellent. The Trinity Combo was perfect for our group of five. The banana pudding dessert was amazing — you really have to come here to appreciate the delicious flavors, moist meats, and freshly prepared BBQ.

Best Burnt Ends in Kansas City I've been going here since they opened up fairly regularly. The food is always OUTSTANDING. My favorite items are: Burnt Ends, sausage, and the banana pudding. It is a little on the pricey side, but we'll worth it. They have a solid variety and you can get the order to the size you need. I've also had their sandwiches, and they are delicious as well. Would highly recommend taking the trip down and trying them out! Just a heads up, keep an eye on their hours. I think they're still only open Thursday to Sunday from about 1130am to 4pm and it's first come first serve.

Had the three meat platter with brisket, sausage, and pastrami. I think the latter may be seasonal. The brisket and pastrami were tender and perfectly smoked. The sausage was tasty but the casings were not easy to cut or chew. Had some baked beans and potato salad which were both tasty. Enjoyed the pickled fixins. The three different sauces were good also. Will be back for sure.

This place has delicious BBQ. It's not quite the normal KC BBQ that I'm used to, though. In fact, the name fits well. It really does remind me of BBQ made by a chef. The Bacon burnt ends were perfect. Smoked pork belly with a sweet, flavorful crust on each cap. The only problem is there wasn't enough of them! The Brisket is thick sliced, and it's amazing! The Chipotle Coleslaw was great. It's not sweet at all. It's got a unique flavor, though, and i would definitely order it again. My only complaint is that it is a little pricey. If the price was a little lower, i would have given 5 stars. The food is really good and even though it's a little more expensive than i like, i will definitely go again!

The princess and I found ourselves in the West bottoms searching the few antique stores that were open when we decided to grab a bite to eat. She said that she heard good things about chef J. I am always impressed at anyone who thinks they can compete in Kansas City with BBQ. So I found the food here unremarkable. Nothing wrong with it just not great. Too many excellent places that are way better than average to choose from, that's what makes it so difficult to stand out. The next time we go to first Fridays it's likely we try Chef J again.

It is very rare for me to give out 5 stars at all, ESPECIALLY when it comes to BBQ. As a Texas native that moved to MO a year ago and have been looking for some brisket to give me that at home taste, it’s been a LONG year. Stopped in to Chef Js today and man oh man, out of everywhere I’ve been in MO this is by far the best. Bacon burnt ends are sweet, savory, tangy meat butter. Amazing. The ribs are insanely well seasoned and perfectly tender. Now for the most important part… the brisket. This is where every other place has failed terribly. Chef J on the other hand is putting up a fight with some of the best Texas Brisket I’ve had. Tender, seasoned to perfection, smokiness is incredible, and juicy. Can’t go wrong at all. The sides were not my cup of tea but I can see how they would be others faves. Everything is bold with flavor. 10/10 recommend.

Pros: Bacon burnt ends. These are FANTASTIC! Pork Ribs. Fall off the bone tender. Excellent. Hot link / sausage. Really good flavor. Mac & cheese. Loved the bow tie noodles. Sauces. Enjoyed the BBQ sauces. Deserts. Amazing Atmosphere. I like the building it’s in. Cons: Beef brisket. DRY. No moisture. Probably the worst beef brisket I’ve ever had. Beans. They’re much to plain. The sauce the beans come in is good but the beans themselves could have been softer. What I discovered is when I added pieces of rib & sausage to the beans and it all mixed with the sauce, it was MUCH better. The beans would be better if they added more to the mix. It’s bland by themselves. Bottom line: When the food here hits, it’s really good. The misses were really bad. For Kansas City BBQ it’s not bad so I’d recommend you stop in.
