National Car Rental

I had a great experience renting with National to drive from Chicago to spend some time with my family in central PA. I picked up in their Loop location downtown. Checking in and getting my paperwork took literally less than a minute upstairs. Once I got to the garage in the basement of the building, I found a line of people waiting there for a car. They did a good job with social distancing, and everyone was wearing masks. It did seem like they could have used more staff, though it was a Saturday afternoon so maybe they were just busier than usual. The line moved very quickly, and the guy running the garage was fantastic. Very fast, efficient and friendly, despite obviously (and understandably) being a bit harried with all the customers. I’m not sure if I was just lucky, but I reserved a midsize car and got what appeared to be the last one in the garage (at least as far as I could see). The gas tank was only 3/4 full and they were out of the toll tag I wanted, so the very helpful employee said I should bring it back with the tank empty for no charge as a way of making it up to me. This worked out perfectly, as I only had to stop for gas once on my trip, and I had less than 1/8th of a tank left when I returned the car. The vehicle itself could have been cleaner (I’m not sure if they had time to go over it thoroughly before I got it due to how busy they were), but that didn’t really matter to me because I was planning to thoroughly wipe down the car myself just to be safe before I set out on my trip. It was a newer Hyundai Elantra and felt great to drive. The vehicle worked flawlessly on my 10 hour drive, and was very comfortable. It had some nice safety features and Apple CarPlay. Returning the car was even more of a breeze. I dropped it off at the closest airport, which was almost completely empty. The employee there just scanned a code on the window, confirmed I wouldn’t be charged for bringing the car back empty, and then sent me an email with a receipt that exactly matched the agreed upon price for the rental (which was hundreds of dollars less than other rental companies, who charged huge “drop fees” since I was taking it on a one way trip across several states). Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a much better experience. The company seems to be handling the Covid situation well, and I would definitely rent from them again when I need a rental car in the future.

Service is great, friendly, professional, helpful and the car was freshly washed, filled with gas and ready to go when I arrived for pick up. A real pleasure renting from this National Car location. I have rented here before and found them to be just as great at service this time as they have been in the past.

This location is a nightmare. The woman who call herself manager is super rude. She yells at her colleagues and customers. She didn’t have the car I reserved (actually she doesn’t have any cars available), and tried to sell her mistake to Chicago Marathon. If they have a choice to not honoring a customer’s reservation, what’s the point of my reservation? When other customers come inThey don’t check or clean the vehicle, which explains why people from previous reviews complain their cars are dirty. I see people return cars to them, they just give them to the next customer right away. I was sitting on a valid reservation, waited for over 30 mins, ended up getting no cars but that woman’s rude attitude. She told me all nearly branches are also sold out, so she cannot get a car delivered to this location. But that’s a lie, because I later made a new reservation and got a car from the Airport location. National should make better effort connecting different locations. If one branch mess up, and I call customer service, you should be able to get a car for me from a nearby location.

I have always had a very good experience when renting from National. The cars that they have in their fleet are nice, and often fun to drive. The service I have received from representatives has always been very pleasant. I know that I will rent from National again in the future.

I love the downtown location (save the airport tax) and the staff is AMAZING!! From the front desk to the garage I received first class service. You can select any car in your class category, which is pretty cool. I caught a flat out of town on my last trip, called the 800# and they gave me directions to the nearest open rental location - they swapped my car out with no hesitation.

Great well maintained cars and courteous staff. Hard time finding the entrance. Thomas O'Connell the branch manger deserves kudos for great service.

ON THE WEEKEND YOU HAVE TO ENTER ON CLARK ST. This location was impossible to find on a Saturday because the doors are all locked at 203 S LaSalle. We spent about 30 minutes wandering around before a nice CTA security guard directed us to Clark St. We had called National's HQ (only # listed) and they knew nothing, had no way to contact the local office and ask where in the world they were. I'm giving 5 stars because the staff were so nice and said everyone complains all weekend. They said they have told HQ a million times there needs to be signage on LaSalle, but get no help. Such bad service from National HQ but the actual rental experience was great, once we found it!

I loved renting from National. Over rented all types of their cars and have been content with 90% of my rentals.

By far one of the easiest car rental places I have ever rented from. I would rent from National again. I have been traveling 15 years now and there was absolutely no hassle!
