Seriously Delicious BBQ. This place will give Joes & Slaps a run for their money. Bacon wrapped Burnt Ends were succulent and flavorful. Pulled pork was juicy with a nice smoke flavor. The house garnishes were tasty. House Sauce was overall great.(Yellow kind was Honey Mustard style). Mac and Cheese was very creamy. Mexican Cheesy Corn was good. Prices were great. Friendly Staff. Outside Seating available as well as inside. No tap water was offered (they have a unisex bathroom) if you bring a water bottle. Free street parking. Overall definitely a top 3 bbq joint in KC area.

Finally found some Texas BBQ in KC! Tried all of the meats and they were phenomenal! The bacon burnt ends were to die for. Brisket was great as well, which I have found is tough to find in KC. I had to knock a star off because the sides were disappointing and pretty bland. The coleslaw had no flavor at all. Coleslaw is tough to mess up so that's baffling. Mac N cheese was also bland, as was the cucumber salad. All in all, I will say it's the bear BBQ I've found in KC.

Got there early last Sunday with a few families waiting outside before the doors opened. We’re standing on the corner talking then we look back and a long lines started forming. Even though we got there before majority of the people, we got pushed back. The place was quiet even with the amount of people eating and standing in line, I recommended some music to the chef. The staff was polite and attentive. The food was amazing! My family was impressed! Would highly recommend and come again!

70+ KC BBQ places tried so far, and Chef J is a top contender. Visiting First Weekends means you also have the opportunity to sit outside if you choose, but there's plenty of seating inside. Operating hours are select, and food is served until it runs out. We waited in line for the doors to open at 11:30am. I ordered a two meat platter which comes with two sides and I added a half rack of ribs. The mac and cheese is made to order. They have three sauces, a KC sweet & spicy, a Carolina gold, and the Chef's house which is vinegar based. I preferred the Chef's although I surprisingly liked the gold as I'm not always a fan of mustard BBQ sauces. The beans were not cloyingly sweet like a lot of places around KC. I liked the pickled veggies they serve, it had just a hint of spice. Kurt & Kelly added sausage and bleu potato salad to their order, which they liked. They favored the brisket. We all very much enjoyed the ribs. The pork was tender and was well complimented by the gold sauce. Absolutely recommend a trip to Chef J's!

I've eaten at almost every barbecue place in Kansas City, this might be hands, down the best hidden secret in the entire region. We had the MVP, the three of us did, We went back for seconds. It had sausage brisket and pork, the pork even after sitting out understand which for 5 minutes to not dry out it was still moist and the beef was so great with the bark You didn't need sauce. The sauces that were given were good even though the spicy one was thin, but the mustard one was very much liked and the regular barbecue sauce was good for what it was. When you're not get to try to burnt ends because they were sold out by the time we got to put our order in.

Best ribs I have ever had. The brisket and jalapeno sausage were just as good. Went ahead and ordered all the sides just to try them. The beans, potato salad we my favorite the rest we ok and the coleslaw well just missing something. This place has times listed from 11:30 to 4:30 or Sold Out. We waited too long the first time we tried this place and sure enough it was closed because they were "sold out" . This time, we got there early and still had people ahead and behind us. So do yourself a favor, get there early. If you're from out of town, you might wanna grab a rack of ribs to go.

Had a very good experience at Chef J’s. Love the laid-back vibe and a great excuse to explore the bottoms (ahem, I’m talking about the neighborhood 😁). Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Portions are very generous too. I thought the brisket wasn’t as good as some other KC institutions - it was tender, but lacked the smoky/salty punch. The pulled pork was great and the sides are off the hook — highly recommend the Mexican corn! The desserts are delicious too — the peanut butter pie was the perfect end to our meal. Recommend!

Everyone is acting like this place is the best. Finally tried it but they sold out of ribs and burnt ends and claimed that the bacon wrap burnt ends was like the ribs. That's nothing but fat.The place was not crowded so the only explanation for running out of food was they only cook enough for 2 hours of business. So I had the sausage and pulled pork. This was subpar at best. Believe me when I say this. Jackstack is waayyy better. If your from out of town please don't do it.

Great food that feeds not only your stomach, but your soul! Thoroughly impressed with the delicious BBQ served at Chef J BBQ. I recommend the entire menu, all the proteins (meats) are tender and the sides make you want to do a dance on the first bite (try to the smoked elotes). Make sure to get there early, because when something is sold out, it’s sold out for the rest of the day. All in all some of the best BBQ around!

Came here for the first time today. Located right beside The Beast down in The West Bottoms. There was a line to get into the place but the line moved rather quickly. We got our food quickly and there were plenty of seats available. Food was sooooo delicious. I got the brisket and Mac And Chesse. Scrumptious. Can't wait to come back and try something different
