If you order on the QR code at the table, the staff will ignore your drink order. You will need to get the attention of the staff if you actually want the coffee you paid for. If you are male, by yourself and under 50 you will be treated with suspicion for walking in the door.
Highly recommend the Hostel Cafe for trivia! The host was funny and personable and I can’t forget to mention that a past Jeopardy contestant was there! They have a variety of reasonably priced beverages, I loved their lavender vanilla kombucha and seasonal peppermint latte. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying your experience!
This a sweet secret for have a late dinner or do homework late at nite. The staff is SO friendly. Grace and Nadia are so nice and very friendly. The prices are great and the garlic fries are fresh and delicious. Great pastries. It's my friends great little place to eat.

Great lunch and good for breakfast as well. It's a cute spot because you are close to couch park and can do some people watching of the people staying at the hostel. Lots of great conversations if you're comfortable chatting with people. Owners are nice and usually around as well. Beer on tap, coffee, pastries, and vegan and vegetarian options.
i went to this cafe daily over a week and there was a barista i haven’t seen in the morning and i was making small talk about the cat in the secret garden, she told me how she wanted to keep it and i said jokingly that i would beat her to it. later that day i asked her if she seen the cat and she ignored me which is okay, but i was told i was being a problem for making small talk by the manager.
I stayed at the hostel for a few days 11/10-11/13/25, I ate here a few times. I have celiacs disease and lactose intolerance, I found that the food was really good and didn’t make me sick.
The beans are a bolder and bitterry taste. Not going to say it's my most favourite but I wish I had spent my 4.50 elsewhere. It's convenient but the air smells like a wet rag. 🥴
I love the low key vibe here. The outdoor seating is nice too! I usually get the vegan breakfast and coffee. Always very good at decent pricing.
Stayed here for a quick stop through in Portland and had an absolute blast! There is an event on most nights that creates a great atmosphere for both locals and travellers. Rooms were huge and clean, plus you get complimentary coffee and bagel when you stay, we would definitely stay again!
