Not good. Eggs over easy were eggs over hard, minced potatoes, and veggie hash over vinegared.
Loved the honey rose latte. The salmon burger was ok--wish it would have had more spices. Pretty chill place. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The hostel next door sells great postcards.
I love trivia at the Cafe with Sunny and her Cake trivia! It is such a welcoming and fun experience that's different from other trivia. I met some wonderful travelers and locals, and I saw many travelers staying at the hostel meet each other and form lasting friendships while playing trivia. Overall, it adds a ton of character, fun and value to the Hostel Cafe experience. I also enjoy open mic on Mondays and the food and drinks are excellent. I hope trivia comes back soon!
I forgot what we ordered but this place seemed a lot less busy than I would think. The food was top notch. It's a quaint quite little coffee shop decorated elegantly. It was so calm and relaxing inside. Seemed like everyone was happy. The rainy day suddenly seemed sunny from inside. We got coffee at another place but ordered food. I got a breakfast burger and my wife got a breakfast bowl with sweet and reg potatoes. Very filling and nice presentation. We'd eat here again. But not for a while because we have more places to try! Not many places have breakfast burgers so I was happy to get one before the Japanese garden. We were 10 mins away by car at this Cafe. Part of the reason we chose it!
Our Portland-based Scout group held our annual Easter egg decorating event in the Group Center of the NW Portland Hostel. The space easily accommodated our 27 participants with room to spare, and the included kitchen was very convenient for preparing dyes and for cleanup. The adults and teenagers alike very much appreciated having the Hostel Cafe a few paces away for a healthy energy boost! The space was perfect and the event was a big success. We will definitely be coming back!
Decided to try a new place for breakfast and the Hostel Cafe was a short walk from our Airbnb. My partner and I both ordered the French Toast served with two pieces of a very dense break fried crispy and topped with butter and maple syrup on the side. The dish also contained some strawberries, blue berries and banana pieces. Very good French Toast and the service counter is very helpful.
I visit the Hostel Cafe at least once a week. It has a great Portland atmosphere. First, the food is excellent and has something from vegan to meat. My favs are the Tofu lettuce and tomato sandwich and the mac and cheese, though I recommend the salads and the breakfasts as well. Its all good. Second, the cafe hosts music almost every day from jams to concerts and open mics. A great neighborhood place to relax and enjoy some live entertainment. Third, the owners work in the hostel daily. They are kind and community oriented and their hostel and cafe reflect their community values. Fourth, the beers, ciders and coffee drinks are great. Fifth, as this is a hostel, one can meet people from around the world. Sixth, the staff are really friendly and helpful. I love this place. Every neighborhood should have one. And we are lucky to have the Hostel Cafe. Mark
We absolutely love The Hostel Café! We host our Blossom & Bloom accountability group here every other Sunday, and it has become one of our favorite gathering spaces. The team is always so welcoming and kind — they truly create a warm, inviting environment that makes everyone feel comfortable the moment they walk in. It feels amazing to support a local business that pours so much care into what they do. The food and drinks are consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect for meaningful conversations and connection. I also regularly meet my strategic planning clients here, and it’s such a great spot for all the business we do at Blossom & Bloom! It’s the ideal blend of cozy and professional. Thank you for being such a wonderful home base for our community. We love you guys!
A great third place to relax or chat it up with visitors/internationals. The staff are SO lovely and the Apple Fritters are to die for. I love how there are multiple seating areas and they are always playing the best music.
Love this cafe! Reserved some tables for an event that I threw for some girlfriends in their back area and it was perfect. Staff is super nice! Recommend coming on your own or inquiring about booking tables/a room for an event and encouraging friends to get cafe food & drink 🤗🫶
