I have lived at Pearl Street Coop from Fall, 2010-Early Fall, 2017 .... and it has changed me forever as a human being. Nothing comes even remotely close to the experience. I got a family, and friends for life. Pearl Pirates ... keep it real YO !!!

Pearl street is a magical establishment. It’s a very safe space for students to experience communal living and what it means to have a truly Democratic society. There can be wild parties, and things can get dirty, but one of the core values is respect. So everything gets cleaned and people are afforded a safe space to party. It’s old, but there’s dedicated maintenance people to fix what needs fixin. If you’re looking for a quiet house, it’s probably safer to choose another college houses or if coop, but pearl isn’t super loud every day or anything. The pool is easily the best part. All your lunches and dinners are cooked for you by your housemates. You can make rules and host your own events. And the friends that you make are for life!!! Highly recommend living here.
Lovely people and community, uniquely repulsive living standards. Please don't sign a lease here for the love of God. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the people residing in the co-op, nor the community they cultivate (although the co-op system wasn't for my liking), but there are a litany of issues which made this place near unlivable for me. The room I reside in is comparable to a Soviet Style dorm, though apparently it's genuinely worse than what my parents experienced growing up in the USSR. The temperature of my room ranged between 55 in the winter to 85 in the summer, with no ability to control heating or cooling. I could go on with a laundry list of complaints, but I have a paper to finish :/.
Pearl Street Co-op is cooperative style housing rather than a typical house, apartment, or condo. That means when you live there it's part of your signed contract to do 4 hours of house labor, and that could involve cleaning, cooking, or a myriad of tasks. Even if you have a busy schedule and there isn't time for you to do labor, officers make a good effort to give the most flexible labor possible. I think it's a super super unique to live in a co-op style house, and you'll get to meet so many different and lovely people. My experience with Pearl has been great, first and foremost because of the community we have together. I like the fact that we plan and act on important house matters as a whole group, like group activities or house upkeep. I've seen Pearl residents really care about each other and the environment they live in. Application process is really easy too. Would not hesitate to check it out.
Lived there for 3 years. Completely invaluable and life-changing experience—truly the best of times. My friends became family. It’s so special. And it’s the only affordable place to live near campus! You can’t beat it.
