Don’t know why this place is so lowly rated, it’s 13$ per pound of food, which you can pick and choose, and it tastes amazing! If you don’t think it’s flavorful enough, there’s a sauce station to help out.
Absolutely love Zhangliang Malatang in Philly!❤️ The ingredients are always fresh, and I really enjoy the customizable broth flavors—you can make it as spicy or mild as you want. The staff is super friendly and attentive, making sure you get exactly what you’re craving. It’s the perfect place for a warm, comforting meal, especially on a chilly day. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, making it a great spot to eat with friends or even alone. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for authentic and delicious hotpot-style dining!🌟🌶️
Interesting new concept! In this place you buy your food by the lbs! It’s 13.99/lbs and you can select your own items buffet style and choose one of the flavors, I tried the original and the tom yum and they were both good! Welcome to a new era of malatang of Chinatown!
It only took me a sip of the soup to make me cry like a baby...🤧 Forgive me for losing my cool over such simple food. It is authentic. Every spoon full is the flavor of China 🇨🇳. It is a temporary cure for my homesickness. Until next time! "I'll be back!" 🖖
We’ve been coming here often and have always enjoyed the food, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. Recently, they hired a hostess with a very poor attitude. She couldn’t provide any information about wait times or seating availability, didn’t take our name or phone number, and simply told us to wait outside. What was most frustrating was that even when tables became available, she refused to seat us and couldn’t explain why. This lack of organization and professionalism really took away from what used to be a great dining experience. We hope management addresses this, as the food is still very good, but the service at the front now needs serious improvement.
First time eating at this restaurant after wanting to try it for a while. It was pretty busy when me and my two friends came in and it was a bit hectic for not being very familiar with the options. I was able to find exactly what I wanted and I have a mild seed, nut, mushroom allergy and asked about my options but was able to get the tomato soup base and I didn't seem to have a reaction to anything which was good although limiting (which I expect when visiting most restaurants). The soup base was tasty and bland enough on its own that and I was able to season it with the seasoning bar with lots of garlic, calantro, and soy sauce to my tastes which I love. I think I'll enjoy coming back. The space is small which is the only drawback. We were lucky to arrive just in time to find a seat for dinner.
Their “tech soup” is really good, and I go there with my child twice a week. The only thing that makes me upset is that when they take the ingredients in to cook, they seem to be taking some of them for themselves. The last time, I deliberately added a lot of fatty beef because it’s more expensive. But when it came back, there were only 2 pieces of fatty beef left. I also added 5 crabs, but only 3 were served back.
I really loved my hot pot. My only suggestion is having the food separated in a more efficient way so it doesn’t mix with other veggies/raw meats. They don’t offer water…they need to change that asap. What hotpot doesn’t offer water?! It’s small and can be very packed with no room in between tables. Some tables are unnecessary.
Its used to be a good place to eat malatang but lately the food and service just went down hill. We have dined here multiple times but today they failed us miserably. Our stir fried instant ramen came out overcooked and soggy to the point that they all broke apart, we made it known to the staff and less than 5’ later, the lady from the kitchen came out, gave us back our bowl and told us that “ this is how this type of noodle supposed to be like” . Funny huh? If that kind of noodle supposed to be soggy then why do you even sell that and serve that on the first place?? We have ordered the same stir fried dish multiple times before and this is the first time we have this issue! Instead of trying to resolve that issue. We were told by the lady we should have “let them know to add the noodle at the end “ . Isn’t it your job to know when to add the noodle so that it wont be overcooked and soggy? Since when does the customer need to tell the chef how to cook their food? So it was concluded that it was our fault and therefore, they wouldn’t do anything about it. So she said we need to let them know next time. She wont take accountable on the the fact that she failed the dish. The issue with the soggy noodle wasn’t a big deal and we would gladly accept an apology and have a side of plain stir fry noodle but instead they let the lady in the kitchen handled it poorly and rudely. Food is okay but we wont be back for that kind of service.
This place seems pretty good. Your meal is based on weight of the ingredients you pick out. I thought this is better than choosing the selection because you have control on the portion you want for each food selections. At the cashier, you will get to choose the soup broth you want. It is not that big inside. Tables and seats are first come first serve. Staff will clean up the table after you’re done.
