Prices are ok not cheap but not expensive ether. Clean but not spotless.Waiting time is just righ. We came for a burgers and were very disappointed. We ordered one burger and one cheeseburger medium rare, they brought 2 burgers both of them were raw, totally raw. I complain and this time they brought me a burger and a cheeseburger both completely raw, not cooked at all like tow previous ones. I will never come back agan.
Great hawaiian food place. Definitely recommend the Mochiko Chicken and the alcoholic beverages. A bit smaller portions for hawaiian food standards and we also got the short ribs but it was a bit saltier than what im used to. The ambiance of the place is nice. Definitely a great spot to eat and would come back again. Love that there are good alcoholic beverage options and the Mai Tais are strong. In terms of just the food in general, good hawaiian food, but not the best of the best. Would still recommend people to check this place out!
Absolutely awful experience. Four of us ordered from Ate-Oh-Ate on Sunday through DoorDash, and every single one of us ended up violently sick afterward. We were dealing with vomiting and other symptoms for multiple days. The fact that all four people who ate the same food got sick is beyond concerning. I’ve eaten at plenty of restaurants and have never had an experience like this. Losing multiple days feeling miserable after a meal is unacceptable. Whether it was food handling, storage, or something else, something clearly went very wrong. We spent money expecting a good meal and instead got days of sickness. I normally give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but when an entire group gets sick after the same order, it’s hard to ignore. This was one of the worst food experiences I’ve ever had, and I won’t be ordering from here again
I never eat any food the way I eat Ate-Oh-Ate. Nearly choked to death, completely happy, chowing down on my favorite dish. Consistently good for years now in my experience, thanks! It's so inexpensive for the quality so I always have to pay for a friend to try too. The chili vinegar sauce is delicious with everything.
Came here on a Saturday evening during happy hour with friends. Place wasn't too crowded. We tried the spam rolls, veggie curry, and Korean wings happy hour specials. I had the kalbi ribs and shoyu chicken. Wife had the burger on rice. The appetizers were OK, the best was the curry. The spam rolls were interesting but not that great. The wings were just OK. The ribs and chicken was decent, but the burger on rice was also just OK. Overall the staff was friendly but the food was OK. Solid 3/5.
Fantastic food definitely five stars but I did have to take away a point for the parking situation. It was a tough call because they're really quick at getting the food out and they have plenty of space to sit inside but is such a pain to park.
If you're looking for a Hawaiian Portland vibe, Ate-Oh-Ate is it. I hadn't been in for a while, but we returned recently for lunch and split a pork katsu / shoyu chicken plate and spam musubi. The chicken was full of flavor, although not quite as moist as I remembered (not a deal breaker because it was still good). The pork katsu was super crispy and somehow not greasy feeling at all. The mac salad is the closest I've found to my grandma's (and that's a high compliment, considering she was born on the Big Island and perfected her recipe over decades of holidays and family gatherings). And the spam musubi was satisfying, with the layers of egg and furikake bringing it a step up from the spam-only version you'll find most places. (Although both are delicious. Ono!) Other items I would recommend based on past visits- the fried rice, vegetable curry, and taro chips. (Dining companions have also enjoyed the Aina burger.) And for dessert, try the butter mochi. It's not a light dessert by any stretch of the imagination, but it's just chewy enough, sweet, and delicious. It also travels well if you'd rather take it to go. Portions are plenty for me, so you may be full after enjoying the rest of your meal. Beyond the food, service is friendly and reasonably fast. Order at the counter, grab your own drinks, napkins/utensils, and they'll deliver your meal to the table. Then you bus your own dishes after you're done. And standard for the area, be ready to circle the neighborhood a couple times to find street parking. But it's worth it.
Really tasty Island style BBQ and Teriyaki. Portions were large and everything was delicious. It’s a cute “surf” style fast-casual dining room. The crispy Chicken and fried rice were both very good. Loved the Mac Salad too.
Food was ok. I had higher expectations because I’m familiar with and cook Hawaiian food - this place did not have enough flavor. Mochiko chicken was good. My friends got tofu teriyaki and loco moco which were ok. I wouldn’t go back but nice atmosphere and service.
Another great spot for amazing food! We ordered three items and were extremely pleased with each dish. We choose the Shoyu Chicken Plate, the Curry Bowl with Fried Chicken, and a side of Pineapple-Cabbage Slaw. The Shoyu Chicken Plate came with deliciously marinated chicken, rice and macaroni salad. The chicken and marinade sauce are the star of this dish. 4.5 stars 🌟 for this dish. The Curry Bowl was amazing! The flavor of the Curry and tenderness of the veggies we superb! I could eat this Curry every day! And the added fried chicken was crazy thin, tender, and crisp! My only complaint is I should have ordered more fried chicken. 5+ stars 🌟 The Pineapple-Cabbage Slaw reminded us of an ambrosia salad, but the healthier option. We treated this as our dessert!
