I come here fairly frequently for regular grocery needs. Standard Portland grocery store in the sense of people hanging around outside and security at the door checking receipts. Things are easy to find once you've been there more than a couple times. There's a coin-operated candy machine near the street entrance that I appreciate for a Bonz candy fix on my way into the store. Self checkout staff is usually friendly, albeit sometimes slow, which isn't always their fault.

The management of the store has clearly given up. From the escalator that’s been broken for over three months, to the ever broken BottleDrop door. These guys should just close the doos and move on, they clearly are showing they don’t care about its customers or the neighborhood.

I would give zero stars if possible. Go to the Trader Joe’s down the street or literally anywhere else. My husband and I are on vacation, visiting Portland for the first time. We decided to stop in for some groceries, including a bottle of wine. The self checkout attendant- Jennifer - walked up to my husband and I with a strange aggressive demeanor and demanded to see both our IDs (not unusual when buying alcohol obviously) then without even looking at the IDs she just asked us for, snatches the bottle of wine from us and says “I’m refusing to sell you this wine.” When we asked for an explanation as to why she looked right at my husband and said “you don’t look right.” We were absolutely stunned, and asked to speak with the manager, John who approached us and simply said “I have to back my employee.” As someone who has spent years working in retail, I can absolutely respect a manager who stands up for their employees, however, just like the customer is not always right- the employee is not always right either and that is a very poor way to manage an establishment. We will be filing a formal complaint, and I hope that someone is able to avoid an awful experience based off of this encounter.

Who was that “genius” to put extra boxes between the rows and at the end!? It’s Not easy to walk around. I would never buy anything from them just because you’re trying to sell it so aggressive. Please remove them. It’s not a NYC deli!

Today I was visiting while going to the Timbers game across the street. The cashier named “V” was really sick. He was sniffing really badly and had snot dripping out of his nose onto my items!!! Not only that, he had bandages all over his hand that blood seeping through them. I am not sure what was going on there, but I physically gagged all the way to my car. I finally found a place to stop and wash my hands several times and his hands with no gloves… touched my items that I now had to touch. He also wouldn’t engage in any sort of dialog. He just ignored me. There was also an African American man that I asked for help. He ignored me! I then repeated it thinking he didn’t hear me. He looks at me and says “whus up”? So I asked my question. He told me to head to the end of the story and ask another associate. What is with this place? It is gross and terrible. Is everyone in Portland rude? This has been my experience.

Just started shopping at this location and I love the meat department. Always clean and well stocked. They offer a lot more variety than the location nearest to me.

It's great as far as Fred Meyers can be I suppose. It's located downtown, so I'm sure the building has some historical significance which I'm ignorant of, just like every other building here. It's probably the first Fred Meyers to open in Portland by good ole Fred himself back in 1889 or something like that. One interesting fact, apparently this is the only Fred Meyers location that does not sell shoes or clothes. Makes sense when you think about it, since when downtown, one does not buy their shoes or items of clothing at such a place. How proletariat... You buy them from the many boutiques, galleries, shoppettes, and haberdashers which are ubiquitous here, like decent bourgeoisie.
