Had a great Birthday Brunch for 2. Shrimp and grits have a spicy kick, the Bleu cheese in it was delicious 😋. Loved the atmosphere. Will be back!
Food and atmosphere were great. Service was terrible, our server was non existent after getting us drinks. Then every other worker ignored our area too. On top of that due to the world cup, 20% gratuity was figured into the price already. We won't be going back due to no service.
The food was great! We had: Gumbo, Fried Green Tomatoes, collard greens, and Shrimp & Grits. Our least favorite was the Shrimp & Grits because the grits needed more cheese and/or salt and it also came out not quite as hot as it should have been but it was still pretty good. Everything else was great and we loved the Gumbo. Parking lot across the street was expensive but apparently we could have parked for free next to the restaurant (at least on the weekend) so just keep that in mind.
Would definitely recommend and give a 9/10! The food was delicious! Those blueberry cinnamon biscuits definitely delivered more than I expected (SO YUMMY)!!!!!! The catfish probably could’ve used a little salt but still good! The collard greens were pleasantly surprising since we’re from the south, had very nice taste to them. The dirty rice was your typical dirty rice. The chicken and waffles were good! The chicken skin has a nice taste to it, with a little sweetness and they were juicy. I was served a thigh and breast. The waffle tasted like a normal waffle but everything was good!……… Went again for dinner and have even more photos! Would 10 for 10 recommend!
Came in with a group of 6. Food is amazing. Service was as bad as I have ever had in Kansas City. 20-30 minute wait time for drinks. One appetizer never came, the other finally arrived well after our main courses. Empty water glasses. Really disappointing that they are unable to find wait staff with as good as the food is.
From a North Carolina Chef If you're seeking a taste of the South in the heart of downtown Kansas City, look no further than Lula. This charming restaurant offers a delectable blend of Southern and Cajun cuisine that is sure to leave your taste buds dancing. To start the southern culinary journey, I highly recommend trying their Fried Green Tomatoes. The crispy coating giving way to the tangy yet delicate green tomatoes is a treat for the senses. If you're a seafood lover like me, the Peel and Eat Shrimp is a must-try. The shrimp were impeccably cooked, tender and succulent, served with a zesty dipping sauce that accentuated their natural flavors. One highlight of my visit to Lula was their Award-Winning Gumbo. The rich and savory broth was packed with a medley of spices and tender ingredients, creating a bowl of warmth and comfort that screamed authenticity. It was truly a taste of Louisiana right here in Missouri. When it comes to classic southern dishes, Lula's Shrimp and Grits did not disappoint. The plump, juicy shrimp perfectly complemented the creamy and well-seasoned grits, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. And for those craving a taste of the bayou, the Blackened Catfish is a must-order. The fish was perfectly blackened, with a crispy exterior giving way to moist and flavorful center. Aside from the incredible food, Lula's service was exceptional. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Lula effortlessly delivers a true taste of the South in downtown Kansas City. From their mouthwatering Fried Green Tomatoes to their authentic Gumbo, every dish reflects their commitment to Southern and Cajun cuisine. Combine that with stellar service, and you have a dining experience that is sure to leave you satisfied. Make sure to add Lula to your list of must-try restaurants in Kansas City. Chef Jerry Hicks
So we went to Lulas on a Saturday night, not sure if this is how it always is. But I made a reservation for 7:15, and we did get seated at 7:15. However, the service was so slow. It took 10 minutes for someone to bring us water and ask what we wanted to drink. When she arrived we ordered a drink and our food. It took 20 minutes to get just our drink. Then another 30-40 minutes after that to get our food. It was over an hour after being seated before we ate. Then my girlfriend ordered the "Shrimp and Grits" which was $30. The plate only had 5 shrimp! Not to mention, the atmosphere was so loud. I can understand with everyone talking and the concrete floors and brick walls. But they were blaring music over everyone as well. I had to yell to communicate with her. Suffice to say we will not be coming back or recommending this restaurant to anyone.
I was referred here & I wanted to like it so bad but it’s not my cup of tea. The service was amazing & the place is really nice but the food is a no for me. Fried Chicken Platter - The chicken and biscuit was tasty. It was fried crispy and flavorful. Beyond the crust, the chicken itself was flavored really well. Collard Greens- too bitter for my liking. It kinda tasted like there was a lot of vinegar incorporated. Candied Sweet Potato’s- Not what I was expecting. On the pictures it’s cubed potatoes however it came in a wet like mash. They weren’t bad at all just different from what I’m used to. Fried Green Tomatoes - I’m not sure if the tomatoes are frozen then fried but they didn’t taste fresh. The coating was really good however the coating to tomato ratio is off.
Went in with a large group for a birthday dinner. This place is wonderful! Food is so great and tasty, service was excellent and the building and vibe of the place is really nice. We ordered the gumbo, chicken and dumplings and biscuits, and the fried chicken (half). Really enjoyed this higher end southern style food and vibe. Definitely recommend.
Danielle was such a great waitress. We had a big group in town for a conference. She gave us great recommendations we all love them. The food was EXCELLENT. I would recommend it and hope that I am able to come back in the future. The hibiscus drink was my favorite.
