Lula Southern Cookhouse was a mixed experience for us. Some dishes were better than others and showed a lot of promise, but the service was relatively slow. It may have just been an off day or a situation where they were understaffed, but everything took quite a long time from start to finish. That said, I’d probably go back to give it another try—especially to check out their brunch, which seems like it could be a highlight.
Oh my goodness, we absolutely adored this restaurant! From the beautiful decor to the lively live music, the atmosphere was just perfect. And the food...oh my, it was simply divine! While we did have to wait a bit for our meal to arrive, the restaurant was positively bustling, so we totally understood. Plus, our waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. If you're planning a visit, we highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time to ensure you don't have to wait too long. And whatever you do, make sure you try the fried oysters - they were out of this world!
We started with the orange roll which was delicious! Catfish was the best! My husband had chicken and waffles and really enjoyed his meal too. The drink I ordered was “Fresh prince of bel pear” loved it 😍 I would recommend making a reservation in advance so you don’t have to wait. Our server was so kind Lovely experience at this place
Wonderful. Came in for Valentines Day and was blown away by how good everything was. We started off with moms meatballs and absolutely loved the sweet, spicy sauce they came with. We ordered their Award Winning Gumbo & the Smothered Chicken fried steak for our entrees. The Gumbo was perfectly balanced, and the smothered steak was perfectly cooked on top of a crap load of mashed potatoes and collared greens. We finished off with the PB&J pie, and it was the perfect sweet treat to end the dinner with. Our server, Danielle, was great, and while she was super slammed with tons of other tables, she was still attentive and super friendly. 10/10 restaurant!
I came for lunch once… and then promptly rearranged my schedule to come back the next day. I surrendered to the fried green tomatoes first. Lightly breaded, crisp, and savory, were a sheer appetizer perfection. Then came the Carolina ham biscuits. These beauties were stacked with ham, fried eggs, and sharp cheddar in a way that felt like a culinary mic drop. On my second visit , I repeated the green tomato ritual. Then I ventured into blackened Delta catfish territory. Tender, flavorful, with that subtle swampy note at the end that plays so well with the smoky spices and andouille sausage in the rice. And then there was the Green Mary cocktail. Imagine a Bloody Mary that went to finishing school and came back with a rebellious streak. Charred green tomatoes, a spice blend that leaves a lingering warmth—this drink didn’t just complement the meal; it demanded its own special mention. My personal favorite touch? A photo of what I assume is the original owner, paired with a disclaimer to call your grandma. It’s the kind of detail that makes you feel like you’ve gotten invited into someone’s home.
This has been the best meal I’ve had in a long time. I was pleased with this experience. The staff were very attentive to even just ensuring our table ware were neat and cleaned quickly once our appetizer and meal were complete. The drinks offer fun twist on traditional cocktails. The “platters” are very different than other restaurant experiences I’ve been to. For a date night it was a super fun idea felt very interactive, and we left extremely happy. Never have I ever tried such amazing deviled eggs! A special thanks to Tom for making this experience amazing. Keep up the great work, and good luck on your adventure!
Sat at the bar and had a good experience. Service was quick and the food and cocktail was pleasant. I ordered the gumbo and it was slightly salty and packed a little punch with the spice but was overall good. For a drink I had the Bee Keeper that was light and refreshing. There were a number of other items that i saw come out that i would like to come back and try.
To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my recent dining experience at Lula Southern Cookhouse on May 9, 2026. I brought my mother to your restaurant for an early Mother’s Day dinner, expecting a quality meal and experience that would justify the premium pricing. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. Our bill totaled nearly $160, yet the food quality did not reflect the prices being charged. Several dishes tasted as though they had been frozen or reheated rather than freshly prepared. In addition, the food lacked seasoning and overall flavor across multiple items we ordered. The experience was especially disappointing because this was intended to be a special outing for my mother. For the amount charged, I expected fresh, flavorful, and properly prepared food. Instead, the meal felt extremely overpriced for the quality we received. I believe management should be aware of how disappointing this experience was, especially during a holiday weekend when many families are choosing your establishment for important occasions. I have kept my receipt and would appreciate a response regarding this matter. At minimum, I wanted ownership and management to understand how dissatisfied we were with the overall quality, value, and experience. I look forward to hearing back from someone regarding this issue. Sincerely, Galen Mack
The restaurant has that rustic vibe to it. Good food, good vibes. Food had an amazing spice. If you order the crab legs get extra napkins ❤️KC
Our waiter was great. She gave an honest assessment of the menu. The food was ok. Not quite the flavor I was looking for, but it was decent. The presentation was great. Everything tasted like it had vinegar and sugar. That’s not my preference. But the server was great.
