I feel like anyone in KC who has any joy in their life already knows that this is THE place to start your day. If you disagree, I just hope dunkin donuts serves you well.
Tried talking to the manager this past Friday about an issue with the pricing and I guess he wanted to embarrass me for asking a question because he talked in the loudest voice the enter time despite me talking at a whisper I guess it wasn’t obvious it wasn’t a conversation to basically YELL about at the counter. Won’t ever be going back here - heck no $20 for a breakfast croissant sandwich are they nuts?! And rude - overpriced for no reason and everything is made in house pretty much. TERRIBLE service I’m a coffee snob and I’d rather pay more at another local spot. I thought this one was good but last visit will be my last!
Great Enviro. Chocolate croissant was great but didn't have a lot of chocolate on the inside. Food took a minute but was definitely made with care. Staff was noligable and kind!
This was definitely worth the visit. The house-made syrups were yummy in my matcha. However, the Kouign Aman pastry is the STAR here! Perfect texture; soft on the inside, flaky and sugary on the outside. I’m not exaggerating when I say it is the highlight of my trip so far, but I’m a pastry girl. My husband got the Focaccia and Lox; and while seafood isn’t my thing, he said he was taken somewhere else by both taste and texture. My only complaints are that I wished the Blackberry Thyme turnover had had more filling, and the breakfast burrito didn’t have the vegetarian option. Be aware, they can’t do any substitutions on the burrito because they are premade. Also, just know this is a busy place, so the lines and the food wait time can be a while. We came on a Sunday morning, so I don’t know if it’s different on other days, but I wouldn’t treat this like a quick stop unless you are ONLY getting pastries, and even then the lines might be long. We will be back!
I always enjoy coming to Messenger when I do, but usually only order drinks and baked items at the cafe. On Monday 3-23 I came in and ordered a latte and decided to order from the kitchen for the first time as well. While I enjoyed the latte, the food was not my style after receiving it. I did try it but did not finish it. The reason for leaving a review is that it is now Friday, and I have been sick all week since eating the food. It has also been extremely hard for me to eat and try to keep food down as well. This started after eating the food on Monday. I love their drinks and baked goods, and the building is pretty and always has great customer service, but unfortunately I will no longer return.
Super cute coffee shop. Very chill atmosphere. It's easy to hangout & enjoy your day. The coffee I had was perfect!
They were running out of all food, had only almond croissant but couldn't warm it up. Coffee was okay.
Messenger is definitely a coffee shop icon in Kansas City that you have to try! The brick building has three levels of seating that can host quite the crowd on a Saturday morning! We enjoyed smooth coffee from the rooftop as well as an almond croissant from ibis bakery. It is a little on the pricey side, but the experience and atmosphere make it worth it!
Massive cafe with plenty of seating for work or socializing! They have some sandwiches & salads, as well as breads & pastries. The bear claw was absolutely perfect! Buttery, crispy, and the right amount of chocolate. My latte was good too. Took a little long to come out but it was a busy Sunday morning.
You know how some places have a good rating but don't quite live up to it? This place definitely is 5 stars all the way. Coffee & pastries...just wonderful! Seating has multiple floors and is great to control the noise.
