Have been coming to Monk's semi-frequently since I moved to Rittenhouse and always had a great time. This time around the food and atmosphere were lovely as always, and the two waitresses who took care of us were great, but the front bartender with the goatee just ruined the experience. When we entered he declined me entry over having an expired ID, despite the same ID showing I am 21. I live a few blocks away and offered to just go grab my non-expired passport, which he said would be okay. When I came back with my passport, he let me in and then said "was it that hard?" in a very rude way, which is the main part I take issue to. I've worked in restaurants and bars for half my life as I come from a family of restaurant owners and workers and I've never heard of an expired ID being an issue, but if this is policy here, I get it, and was totally okay with being denied over that. However, I don't understand why you have to be rude after I come back with my passport and didn't make any trouble over the ID being expired. Food and beer was great and the waitresses were lovely, just a very rude bartender.
The beer selection is great, especially the Belgian beer. The mussels, the beer, and the beef burger was really good too. The beef patty for the burger was a bit smaller than I expected and they charge extra for that little sauce that comes with the fries if you ask for more.
We came here for our wedding anniversary on a recommendation and it was such a good call. The duck salad sandwich and pommes frites are very worth it. My husband loved the mussels. Huge beer list, good vibes. Worth the wait.
We stayed in the area and randomly found this during a late night search for dinner options. Lots of places close by 8/9pm so we were pleasantly surprised to find Monk's which closes after 11pm. Good beer selection, great service. We enjoyed the mussels, fries, and steak frites salad.
Everything here was awesome! It gets busy but is worth the wait. The duck salad sandwich and the burger were both delicious, along with the fries. The beers were good and the atmosphere is fun.
For a place like this where you come with high expectations, it means a lot when the food is better than you expect. It's no Michelin fine dining, but it's not trying to be. It's just really really SOLID food with the chef's unique touch. I would have tried the mussels which everyone seems to rave about, but coming alone, I chose the duck salad sandwich which did not disappoint.
Greatest bar on the planet. Hands down. Food is incredible. But, one of the servers last time was chewing gum. Not a great look. Love the place dearly though.
Monk’s is one of our all-time favorite places. We used to live in Philly and frequented there often. One of the few places outside of Vermont where you can find Hill Farmstead!! So many great beers and so much good food in a great atmosphere. We now live in Lancaster with four kids and have fostered the love of their muscles in them as well! Whenever we’re in Philly, Monk’s is on the itinerary.
I can't believe I had the best cheesesteak in this belgian bar & restaurant in Philladelphia! Delicious food and great place for sour beers! Loved the taste of my Belgian drink and there are plenty to try! Years ago, I tested frog legs for the first time in this pub, and that was a unique experience and a delicious food, too! (Conclusion: frogs taste like chicken!)I didn't notice it on their menu this time around.
Very cool place our waitress Gabriella or was it Gabrielle? She was so awesome and attentive and helpful and pleasant. She made an awesome place even more awesomer! Their and food was outstanding.
