Their beer list is literally called "The Bible." Also, their food is great. I hesr the mussels are amazing, but I have to say, their buffalo wings are INSANE. We went back 2 times in one weekend just to enjoy them again. Also the fries are so good. All around an amazing place, definitely go to the back bar 😘
Now I understand why this place is so popular! Expect a wait but it’s very worth it. Very cool ambiance and friendly + knowledgeable staff. They have an outrageous selection of Belgian beers on tap, what a treat, and the perfect food to accompany it. Or vice versa. Got the duck sandwich, phenomenal. And my girlfriend got the Monks burger. Was unreal and one of the best burgers I’ve ever had - really! Amazing flavor and quality meat. Also got the mussels for an app which were great, and a large quantity. Came here around 2pm on a Sunday and was able to be seated immediately. Even so, was still filled. Next time I’ll come on a weekday afternoon. So good, come here 100%
One of Philly's legendary spots and it did not disappoint! No reservations but we got there early and got seated. Server was awesome and definitely a beer expert! Food was absolutely delicious. Short rib app - very good, liver app (amazing), mussels and burgers were perfect. Looking forward to returning next time we're in town.
There are two kinds of people. Those that have been to Monk’s and understand it’s awesomeness, and those that have not yet been. Which are you ? My wife says the fries and bourbon mayo goodness were to die for. Our burgers were outstanding. Plus you can get Pliny the Elder on tap. What more do you want out of life??
If you read the reviews, a common theme is that there is a wait, well that's beyond true. Better suited for a meal for 2 or a couple, really....dont think about asking for a table for 4 or more. That said, the food was great, the service just as good. I couldnt give it 5 stars, after having to wait over an hour for 3 adults. Again, the food and service were great. When I go back it will be with just one other adult. BTW, the beer selection and bar are no joke and really diverse as well as tasty.
This restaurant is great, the service was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the curry mussels which come with pommes frites and some baguette. I should qualify this, I've frequented restaurants numerous times in France and Belgium whos specialty is mussels so I know a good dish when I see/taste it. Monk's curry Mussels are excellent. A generous portion, with large mussels, and a sauce which complemented the dish very well. I ordered an extra serving of the baguette, just to sop up the sauce. What a great place, you do it right. I'll be back.
Monks back bar is the place for Belgian beer lovers.
Excellent beer. Great vibes. The best trout dip I’ve ever had. Definitely worth a visit with your homies. The mussels are incredible. Every table had them.
For anyone who is there yesterday, you would almost wonder why I rated this place five stars. Even with an overabundance of people and the back bar locked up for a private event, the wait staff, the cheerfulness of the employees, and of course as always the bottom line is the beer. It's just second to none.
This place is fantastic and deserves the 5 stars. Their beers are delicious and on rotation, so you’ll always find something new and unique. The selection is diverse so you can find anything from IPAs to stouts. The thai mussels are absolutely amazing and better than the other flavors. I could eat them every meal for a year tbh. The fries that come with the mussels are super tasty too. The sauce is tangy and pairs perfectly with the starchiness of the potatoes. The mushroom cake is ok, but probably not worth getting.
