In 2021, I had surgery at this hospital after breaking my ankle. I was extremely nervous going in, especially after reading some of the reviews, but I remained hopeful. Unfortunately, my experience was very mixed. During surgery, I was told I had complications specifically, an asthma attack. However, this information was never communicated to me directly. My caretaker had to call the hospital after waiting over six hours (the estimated surgery time) to find out what was happening. My surgery ended up taking nearly eight hours. On a positive note, the orthopedic surgeons there were three of them did an excellent job on my ankle itself. Y’all get a 4.5/5. After surgery, I was given a PCA pump attached to my operated leg. When I woke up, a nurse roughly started dressing me before I was fully awake or aware of what was happening. Another nurse had to step in and warn her to be careful with the PCA pump. Unfortunately, the first nurse was so rough that she disconnected it (dummy). When I got home, I realized the medication was leaking out instead of delivering pain relief. My caretaker took me back to the hospital, and the experience in the ER was awful. I was in severe pain and very vocal about it, but some of the nurses made fun of me and questioned whether I was “really in that much pain.” I had just undergone an eight-hour surgery and had no effective pain control. Eventually, one kind nurse came to check on me, apologized for her colleagues’ behavior, and gave me something stronger that finally helped. While I was in the ER, I overheard nurses discussing another patient’s private medical information they loudly stated that the woman next to me had tested positive for COVID. Later, I woke up to a male nurse entering my room with a COVID swab. When I asked if I was being tested, he hesitated and said he was in the “wrong room.” There was no prep table or any indication that a test had been ordered for me, and the situation made me feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. Overall, while I’m grateful to the orthopedic surgeons and the 1 kind nurse I encountered, my overall experience was extremely disappointing. Communication, professionalism, and patient care were severely lacking in many areas. I would strongly caution others to consider other hospitals if possible.

One of the Whopper families received urgent treatment here, and while the staff moved quickly and professionally, the wait times and communication gaps were noticeable during peak hours. The general care wings are clean and well-equipped, but the scale of the facility can feel overwhelming without a strong advocate present. From a broader lens, SCVMC could easily anchor a capstone project in public health or healthcare administration. Topics like emergency throughput, patient navigation, or county-level resource allocation would be relevant and timely. The indoor garden area stands out—a rare pocket of calm that reminds you healing isn’t just clinical. For families and students alike, this place reflects both the strengths and limits of public infrastructure in a high-demand region.
The trauma staff saved my son's life. The care he received afterward set him up for recovery. Is it a perfect hospital? No. Are the people who work there heroes who are giving others everything they can day in and day out? Yes. The doctors, nurses, and support staff were clearly invested in my son's care. The only place it broke down was on the administrator end -- those people were pretty brutal to deal with as all they cared about was what insurance would and wouldn't cover.
After waiting 11 hours in the ER with intense pain and a fever I finally was called to see the ER Dr. who wanted to send me home with some pain pills. Lucky for me a bright Intern caught my blood test results and SAVED MY LIFE! Had she not admitted me I would be dead from Sepsis! There is a reason this place has a bad reputation and It's well deserved!
I just gave birth here beginning of February 2024. I can't even express how great of an experience they helped me to have. The birthing and maternity ward rooms are huge and very clean. The staff was so nice and welcoming, making sure I was as comfortable as possible given the situation. While in the maternity ward my daughter started choking on left over amniotic fluid and after pressing the call button, saying I needed a nurse and it was an emergency, whithin seconds my room was flooded with 7-8 nurses prepared to get her breathing again (which they did successfully). Forever grateful to the staff here. Highly recommend this place to have your little one's. They'll be in good hands.
Very Rude staff at front desk. So when you arrive for a visit they check in there' system if people have visitors. But theres no telling if someone is actually in the actual room with the patient or have left the room like to get some fresh air outside . Instead there'll tell you " Oh youl have to wait because there is allready two visitors visiting and theres only two people allowed at a time jsut wait here in the lobby" . Best thing to do is to ignore them and go to the actual visiting room and find out yourself if theres people in there. They also make you wait in the lobby for hours without having too .VERY UNORGANIZED hospital forsue & careless. This is just business to them which they REALLY DONT CARE about there patients at all. physical therapist were very pushey to rush her out the hospital after surgery, she was berily able to walk . She was in extreme pain but since her case was a workers compensation they just wanted to get rid of her afraid the workers comp wasn't going to cover much , even after telling them we had the money to pay out of pocket. My wife was discharged with no medications after surgery & was told to go to the cvs down the street knowing there were closed which made things alot more difficult as she was in extreme pain yelling and crying , to make it worst SHE had to physically walk to the back of the store to get her meds, there's so many things wrong with this place hospital avoid if possible. .
My mom was there for a gastrointestinal infection. The nurses from the start were already bad. They never communicated their names, if we needed anything. They lost my mom's blanket after they didnt let us take it to her and when I called if she had received it they said yes, nurse kimme confirmed that. My mom got moved to another hospital and no blanket. She said she saw a bag but they never told her it was for her. I am just mad now. Their nurse bedside manner was not it.
I’m a new patient willing to be assigned a PCP. I called in 5 days in a row, once a day. The least waiting time is 30 minutes. I was never being answered by a representative. Save your time and go somewhere else.
Took my little ones and the facility was spacious and clean. The nurse and doctor were great in treating our children. We also went there for dental care for our foster child and we received great care and advice.
The nurses here (Celso, Christina, Haddick, and Mrs Awuzie) did so much for me during my stay. Im completely amazed at how they do anything and everything to care for the patients. I was here for a number of days and had multiple issues to deal with and overcome. The doctors knew exactly what i needed and what i needed to do but these nurses made it all possible. I will never forget the care and attention i received and the numerous times they came to my rescuse. I would not of had a chance without them. Bless every single one of them - and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
