I have been in town MLK weekend staying a block away. I have tried to get coffee here 3 times and no luck so far. The first time I waited in line for 2 minutes and they had only served 3 customers - ran out of change, coffee beans, wrong orders made - I left with 6 people in front of me. The last 2 visits had one employee working and not able to get drinks out - never have I had a worse experience at a cafe - never mind Starbucks- needs serious management.

If you have any other coffee options at all...even another Starbucks that's 15 miles away, GO THERE INSTEAD. Seriously, I've never had to wait 18 minutes for an iced coffee before, and I still had to have them correct it, because the guy wrote on the cup incorrectly. The place was dirty, the employees didn't write names on cups, and several people who ordered before me were still there waiting when I got mine. Imagine waiting 21 minutes for a grande pumpkin price latte. Literally...I've had better Starbucks service and wait times at Targets and Barnes and Noble stores that were packed. DO NOT GO HERE, NOT EVEN FOR CONVENIENCE!
Same experience as Nancy. One person working, ran out of change, took everyone's order in line, then couldn't remember what we ordered when he finally went to make our drinks. We waited over 20 minutes for 2 coffees. My husband ordered a decaf coffee and the guy didn't know how to ring it up. We watched three other people pay for drinks and then leave without their coffee because they had to catch a shuttle. Why is one person working this store?!
I used to be a store manager for Starbucks so I probably have a more critical review... but trying to put that aside, this was a terrible experience even for a regula customer. They don’t offer much of what other Starbucks offer, and what they do offer, they’re out of stock on much of that. They were short staffed and short tempered with us when it came to ordering and otherwise. As we were getting cream at the condiment bar we were asked to leave because there were too many people in there already. Not even sure there’s coffee in my drink and my husbands americano tastes terrible. I’m here for the week and won’t be giving any more of my business to this location. Hopefully other Starbucks stores in KC have customer service skills and are well stocked.
I have been to many Starbucks across the country because they are pretty standardized for coffee taste. This particular one was so poorly organized that I would not recommend going here. The staff took 10 minutes to take my order because he was too preoccupied retrieving other people’s hot food orders while I was in the middle of my order. I had two drip coffee orders and a hot milk for my 3 year old. He was doing quite well standing in the long line and while I ordered, however because the staff person was so discombobulated and slow my son started acting as all 3 year olds act. My son jumped up and down and hit his lip on the counter. He still has a fat lip today. This could have been avoided if the staff person ran my card after taking my order and had us stand to wait for the hot milk, instead of spending all his time getting others food orders. It took one second to swipe in my card. I would not go here again.
Sometimes it's busy because of all the hotel guests (is IS connected to a Marriott!) But if you're a human who understands how customer service works and takes note that you are not the only person in the shop... then it's a great spot. I live very close to this starbucks and the sweet ladies who work at this location are very nice and very friendly. Busy or no, I like going in to have a coffee and read here because everyone is so friendly!
