I earned my Associates in Education and now I’m earning my Bachelor’s of Science in Management. And for a long time I had believed that I could never get even an Associates because of my LD & ADD. I felt this way because another staff, from another school, here in Chicago, told me anyone with these disabilities never can receive any degree from college. And I will never forget how educators, advisors and counselors, from The UOP have helped me, listened to me, and even stopped their dinner to help me understand the work I was doing. UOP is one of the best schools and I am happy and proud to say I’m a Phoenix!!!
the courses are great but beware if financing, when inquiring about enrolling you will be told you will NOT have to pay anything until 6 months after graduation. That is a lie! Also the student advisors are horrible. I receive mixed messages, some advisors told me about options at the end of my degree that " was now too late", had I been told by an advisor earlier it wills have been an option. I was encouraged to take courses through outside programs Sophia and Study.com but was NEVER told that would cause problems with my financial aid. So when I am 2 classes away from graduating now I cannot because I do not have $3,000+ to pay out of pocket. I would never recommend UOP to anyone. Go someplace else for your degree!
Instructors and tech support are amazing people. If you are thinking of going here using your education benefits, don't. They didn't have what I wanted but something close to it so I chose that. I was told it was $3200 a month and there was a campus close to me. Signed on only to find out that the closest campus that I could attend was 2 hrs away and the rates dropped to $2200 a month. Since then it has been $1800 a month. Also, they close campuses, switch classes, and change things up so much it seems like no one has any idea what is actually happening. The programs they use (like McGraw hill) for classes are so bad the instructors will change homework assignments. They have problems with their website. One assignment was to upload a 3 minute video. Their website can't handle anything over 25mb, the 3 minute video being 129mb. I had to call tech support and they had me download a program to compress files. Despite so many other things I'll leave with saying that your first week of class you need to get the homework done before the first in class session. Despite the "starting date" posted on the home page you are actually expected to start the homework the week prior, IF the class page opens for you. Save the tech support number. Update Oct 2024: Back in 2019, they had reported I was overpaid tuition assitance. I provided the documents they asked for to show I was never paid. I did 3 times until finally they said they would resolve it. I didn't hear anything of it again until a few months ago. I got a call from debt collectors saying I still owed it. I tried disputing it and was going nowhere. In that time, it was reported. My credit dropped 60 points. Thanks UoP, I will continue as I did before to talk as many people from attending your school as possible. 18 and counting. How much is that in tuition a year?
The environment is not friendly to students that aren't former military, In addition some of the guidelines are ridiculously strict. For example, students are expected to do over 5 hours of coursework a week and work and maintain a family. AS well i do not like the fact that they sell you on being a school that works around your busy schedule, yet deduct points for being late to class as if people cant work over time or do not get off work at different times or have to travel far to campus and sit in traffic for two hours just to get there by 6pm which is rush hour. I half of the time do not make it to class until after 7:30pm and i explain this to every professor yet they still deduct points. Which has impacted my GPA significantly. I complete ALL of my assignments, but attendance weighs 20 points of your 100. if you miss 2 points (2 hours) a week that automatically brings your highest possible grade down to a 80. Then you factor in the points that may be deducted based on the professors preference on how they "feel" your assignment should have been completed and composed. Additionally, if your assignment is 1 day OR 1 hour late, expect a 10% late penalty deducted from your grade. The system is set up for students to fail, especially those of us who have other things going on in life. And it seems as though we have academic advisors for no apparent reason whereas you complain about a professor or an unfair practice and nothing is done about it at all. they just say oh, well do you think it will be better for next class??? what??????
Well first off I will say that my Counselor was great he helped me plan my schedule and ensure that I would finish my degree in the time fame that I wanted that is why there is 1 star. Second my classmates and I were mistreated by one of our instructors we informed the school from week 1 and yet the school failed to do anything resulting in students failing the class or even dropping out. The instructors continued this behavior it was a leadership class and I did not learn anything about leadership or the importance of being a leader, all I learned about was how the instructor could do we he wanted I quote him saying “I can fail all of you if I want and there is nothing you can do”. The school acted like something would be done and never did anything about it, this is a perfect example that as a student you are just a number that provides them money. I would recommend go to a different school one that will not just treat you as a number but one that will care for you, and treat you with respect.
This was a major waste of time and money. I was in a tech program and the online labs were always down or frozen. I basically had to call tech support to do homework. I am a busy guy I work long hours and have a family, this is why I chose UoP. I would adjust everything in my life to do a project and then was unable to do that project or assignment because of tech issues. Log out and log back in was about the extent of support I got. Furthermore the course material was dry and about as exciting as an army personnel training manual. I found I was learning more on my own with google than at school. To make matters worse I was given conflicting information after I withdrew and had to get my lawyer involved. No one seemed to have a direct answer about my account and every time I paid it, there was more that magically appeared. Apparently they keep "processing fees" until you owe more than you were originally told. They also spam the life out of you so you never know which correspondence is relevant to you. It was maddening. Save your time and money there are many other options online.
I am so disappointed. I was 4 almost 5 months into my class all for them to randomly stop everything and say they are "requesting more information" which I have provided information at least 4 times. Now I cant log into any classes and I am left to pay back a on a loan when I didn't even get to complete the course! smh
At the end of my career now. Near the beginning, i enrolled at the university of phoenix online classes. They took my application and my credits from my core classes at another college. They enrolled me and gave me my plan for my bachelor's degree. After 5 courses, they notified me they were not going to accept my 2 year associate degree and make me take the entire 4 years at their school. They had already accepted them!It is a scam. Be aware. 10k down the drain. I refused to take all of those courses all over again and dropped the program. Updated, FYI I did email and nothing was corrected or changed. Just informing you all to look elsewhere. Each like is them not making 10, 20, 30k on someone else they would scam. I realized later that they have had lawsuits for their issues here.
The classroom platforms are easy to use and the academic content is typically good, but instructors are clearly only there for an extra paycheck and some of the material is outdated. Instructors regularly don’t respond to messages from students and don’t exhibit any interest in actually teaching and guiding students and classes along. I have been screwed over more than once by an instructor who does not grade assignments on time or respond to messages for guidance and clarification which then pushes back resolution often until the end of the course which is only 5 weeks to begin with. I do not trust my academic future here and would not recommend.
Bad,bad, bad and bad place to go and try to get a degree.People that helped me to get signed up told me a bunch of lies. The Apollo group was awful. I was coached into signing up with all kinds of promises. Don't believe their promises. I was told I needed to sign up for courses that had nothing to do with the type of degree I wanted. When I asked about the classes I needed for my degree, I was told that they would be offered at a later date and would be informed when they would be offered. Well guess what, they never offered the classes that were needed to get the degree I wanted. I did however wind up getting a degree in something I never wanted. Now I am stuck with thousands of dollars owed and no degree in the field I wanted. So, that is why I say beware of all the promises they offer. Another precaution: Make sure you record every conservation you have with UOP or any of their staff.
