Bice small market, but definitely pricier than Whole Foods.
If you’re like me, an anxious black dude already nervous to go into stores like this, maybe skip this place. Despite doing everything “right” , talking nice and proper, making polite conversation with the cashier, hands out of pocket, asking where to sit to eat my purchased deli food, it wasn’t enough to not then be questioned if I actually bought the food once taking a seat. The security let me know that “no one could confirm that I purchased the food” despite me being at the counter moments before and once after to ask where utensils were. I would highly recommend going in with a visually civilized white person as I normally do if you’re looking for a stress free normal shopping experience.
Everyone at the Market was pleasant. The food looks better than it tastes but it was ok. I would have given this place a 4 star except for the incident with the Security Guard. The reason for the poor review was an issue I had to report to this establishment on the Security Guard there. After I got my food to pay for it I turned around and noticed he was right behind me, he turned around quickly to avoid eye contact. I'm a woman of color and he was white. I had done nothing wrong but for some reason other than racial bias he felt the need to follow me. After I paid for my food walking out of the Market he said, have a Happy Easter um. I said, thank you and left. But the experience made me feel uncomfortable and targeted by him!
my partner and i will often encounter this market when heading south from NW Glisan St., and we get hungry on a daily basis. as luck would have it, we were passing by here one day and got snacks for ourselves. they have many options in the prepared foods corner. we like how a beet salad pairs with a 1/2 sandwich and a can of mate. hopefully these items will be in stock each time we go there. because they don't have the kale salad that we paired with it before. i did not investigate whether that was a seasonal option only. i have done research prior on the availability of kale year round, and, as luck would have it, this very market carries kale all year. i will ask if they lost the recipe for the prepared kale salad that we liked so much with beets.
I got 7 different assorted sweet and savory pastries made by the store bakery. Took them home and warned them up in the oven and they were all delicious. I also enjoyed using the fresh-squeeze orange juice machine, and the orange juice was great.
Chris rocks. His customer service is incredible and he makes DELICIOUS drinks.
We had a cup of hot rentile soup, beet salad and fried chickens to go and they heat them up for us, so that we could eat at a table outside. We highly recommend to try sparkling Kombucha with many different kinds of flavors.
Great place for bites, coffee, wine and snack. Has a wide selection of food around the world, especially Greek and Middle Eastern.
"World Foods" is accurate! There's a good selection of packaged items from all over, a small but beautiful variety of fresh produce, and a ton of imported beers... but the best part is the prepared food in the back. They make the best French sandwiches and Lebanese meat pies, and they have a stellar offering of house-made dips (tahini, tzatziki, hummus, etc.).
Great location!! For my fresh produce... fruits and vegetables.. the store is always very clean and Great staff always willing to help.. 👍👍👍👍👍
