Hy-Vee Grocery Store

Bought steak dinner tonight. 12 dollars. Last time I had one it came with a large roll. And for the baked potato you got butters and sour creams. We'll not today. You got less but still had to pay same price. Called and talked to manager about it but she did not care. Will not go again.

I've been shopping here for 3 years. My first impression was negative. I remember I bought some tomatoes and oranges. I was careless and I chose the nicest looking tomatoes and oranges. The tomatoes were like $4.99/lb. I needed a lot of tomatoes and ended up spending more than $30 on them. The oranges, I don't recall the price but I ended up spending around $15 for a few oranges. That said, I give the store 5 stars because they are always well stocked, clean, organized, and they seem focused on offering premium selection of products. They make great use of space. They have a starbucks, chinese restaurant, pizzeria, sushi, a general restaurant, and probably even more stuff that I'm missing. They have a large hidden space where you can sit and drink your latte, eat your sushi, or pizza... and just relax. Last week the Chinese food was 5 stars. Their bakery is solid: great donuts, large selection of breads, muffins are great, cakes are delicious. Their meat department is always top notch. If you are on a tight budget this hyvee is not your best choice. If you value quality and a large selection of items then you will like this Hyvee. I know I say some negative stuff but overall this is a great store and I give it 5 stars.

I’ve had two very disappointing experiences with Hy-Vee’s customer service, and it’s left me extremely frustrated. I placed a catering order for a party, and the crab Rangoon came with no heating instructions. When I called for help—an hour before guests arrived—I was transferred between four different employees, none of whom knew what to do. The store later issued a $10 gift card for the inconvenience. Fast forward to using that gift card: I was double-charged for my order and charged an additional $10. What followed was a long, exhausting back-and-forth with the store manager and accounting. Rhonda Hayes, the accountant, repeatedly insisted that I had not been overcharged, despite the clear evidence. Five days later, she finally issued the refund, but sent a dismissive and unprofessional email in the process. The refund isn’t the issue—it’s the attitude, the lack of accountability, and the absence of basic respect for customers. Hy-Vee can and should do better. Treat your customers with grace.

Very busy store. They are always willing to help though. The person in the liquor department is absolutely terrible and was beyond rude. He literally huffed and puffed at me. The rest of the store is great.

HyVee almost always has what I need and staff are always friendly and helpful. Sale prices are good and competitive but otherwise full price items that I purchase are generally substantially higher than other stores for the items I buy. These batteries are priced 300% higher than what I can find at other stores that sell larger quantities — one of the more extreme examples. Yet, this Dr Pepper Zero Sugar was a real bargain on sale. I don’t buy produce unless it’s steeply discounted or I have an urgent need (and therefore price becomes unimportant for that one item).

Great service, went in and found some amazing fresh food in the bakery, they were very friendly and helped me find the best cake!

3 stars is averaged between pharmacy and grocery, with pharmacy at 1.5 (being VERY generous at that), grocery at 4.5, pretty good overall. My problems with pharmacy are numerous, including getting texts saying I have refills, driving there specifically for that only to have no RX ready, or even any upcoming. There will be 6 people in line when you arrive, one clerk checking RX out, 4 more people arrive, not one more clerk helps. I've been on the verge of changing pharmacies and probably will soon. I recently started getting groceries at other stores nearby solely because of their mismanaged pharmacy.

Decided to try Thursday steak night at HyVee. I liked everything was ready to be served so could eat quickly, steak was tasty with some fat around the outside, rolls were hood, green beans plain . No steak knives, ended up bending my fork, and no steak sauce. Sat in the bar, had a nice cold beer with my dinner, worth the $10 just bring your own knife if you eat there or maybe take out.
