This place is fantastic! Was greeted when I first came in, the service that Cheryl (I hope that’s her name) was fabulous, like chatting with an old friend and even the owner came out to talked to me. I felt like a VIP. Now let’s get into those oxtails! To make a long story short, they have a lifelong customer and I would rate this place and service 20 out of 10.
One bite and I had to do this review ! Ughh omg it's soooo good. I honestly haven't found any Caribbean food in jacksonville that I absolutely love and this was BOMBBBB !
My husband and I have been coming to Irie Diner for years and this is the first time I have not enjoyed what I ordered. We both ordered jerk chicken with rice and beans and cabbage, plus beef patties. The chicken was under seasoned along with the cabbage. The rice and beans were extremely spicy. You expect the jerk chicken to have a kick but the rice and beans were over the top spicy. This has never been the case here. The beef patties were underwhelming. They were very dry. I suspect they have been sitting for a while. Again I love the food here and hope that this was a one time experience.
Food is authentic but expensive. Service was not good. Only two tables in restaurant and was always waiting for something table utensils, napkins, “Hello, is everything ok”, etc. Owner was delightful and would come back to support him.
The food is nice and tasty tender was the curry goat. I enjoyed everything and the boss man is very attentive and takes pride in his business. I can appreciate that. The waitress was cool also. I’ll be back.
I ordered online with DoorDash, the wrong order was delivered - the driver stated that he will check with the restaurant. One hour later, I was still waiting for my order - I called the restaurant and left a message. When my meal was delivered, it was not warm - but I guess it is expected on a holiday weekend.
Some friends from town love this place and I was craving something tasty and enjoyed the Jerk chicken wings, Coconut shrimp, Conch Fritters and Sweet Plantains. Everything was cooked great and packed with flavor. Jamaiya our server was very friendly and the food came out quick.
I just left the restaurant and all I can say is AMAZING! First, the owner Peter was so welcoming and friendly. He came to the table to give us the rundown on the best drinks. He offered his entree recommendations and stayed and chatted with us for a bit. He had the entire table laughing and joking around. I decided on the oxtails with Jasmine rice and Callaloo. The meat was so tender and the sauce was very flavorful. I sucked off every last drop on the bones. I also had 2 Kingston Rum Punches which were the perfect combination of alcohol for me. The atmosphere was cool and relaxing. I loved the background beach footage on the TVs. The music playing over the speakers had me singing and wishing I was on some island sipping my drinks. I didn’t have dessert today but I would highly recommend the coconut vanilla cake. I had one for two birthday occasions this year and it’s THE BEST I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely be back in the very near future!!
One of my favorite places to eat, food is always Fabulous. I had the Red Snapper which was cooked to perfection and my son had the Oxtails which I never had the chance to photo due to the fact when it hit the table he was already attacking his meal with a grin from ear to ear. The staff is friendly and very attentive always with a smile. The Chef works wonders I always order a side of their hot sauce which has some great heat and flavor combined. If you want Great Caribbean food this is the place.
