I had an absolutely fantastic dinner here at Irie Diner! I actually ended up eating two entrees because I'd forgotten to eat all day. First I had the ackee and saltfish, which was a perfect blend of savory, salty, and fishy; the ackee was a wonderfully smooth texture and someone took great care with the fish. My sides were the plantains and the sautéed vegetables which had garlic and maybe ginger or lemongrass? After that I had the curry goat which was SO good, reminded me of the goat I would get when we pulled in for deployment port visits. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful and the owner(?) Peter came over and checked on us too. Just a really nice atmosphere all around! I will absolutely be back next time I'm in Orange Park:)
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! We went for lunch today to celebrate our anniversary, we were married in Jamaica and just wanted a taste of the islands. The food was as bright and flavorful as the islands. The service was excellent and the owner came over to chat with us a few times. What a sweet man, absolutely island vibes! Oh, and get the coconut cake, even if you have to take it home!
If I could give negative -0 I would . This is the worst place I’ve EVER been to. It only did they take a long time to serve but the food is disgusting and so are their lemonades . I ordered curry goat and goat goat soup with no flavor , I also ordered red beans and rice and the rice was beyond dry . They also only give you 3 plantains ? Both my grandmother and myself informed that we refused to eat this food and they offered no correction and said “ well I think the food tastes good and I cooked it” I said this isn’t a traditional dish and this isn’t curry and he said “ well that how I make it” . I then asked well what are we to do and he said that I had to pay for the dish regardless if I eat it or not and that he can always take the plate if I’m not gonna eat it . I told him I’m not gonna give the food back if I have to pay for it so I gave it to someone else . Do not go here it’s over priced and behind disgusting. It tastes like dirty dish water.
From start to finish this place was wonderful. The costumer service was very pleasant and our server was so kind. I had the jerk chicken and rice and beans and plantains. To say it was good would be an understatement this will now be my go to spot. When I say run don’t walk you have to give this place a try!
The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was tasty. However, we won't likely return. Why? I'm not a fan of surprise charges. For instance, for dessert we ordered the rum cake which specifically says on the menu "served with ice cream," but we were actually charged an additional $1.50 for the ice cream. Also, when paying our check, we learned that there was an 2.8% upcharge when paying by credit card. Finally, we were pleased to learn that they offer military discount, but oddly this 5% discount only took 0.42 off our bill of $65.08. I'm still trying to figure out the math for that.
The Atmosphere: The vibe in here is wonderful. As soon as I walked in I was relaxed. The service is good and the waitresses are friendly. The owner is the absolute best. He was so fun, warm and inviting, I felt like I was at a friend's house for dinner. The drinks: I had a ginger rum runner and my husband had an irie sun set. The drinks were great, my only complaint is that I was the designated driver so one drink limit for me. The food: outstanding, we had the loaded fries with jerk sauce as the appetizer. AMAZING. For dinner I had the jerk chicken and my husband had the Akee and salt fish. I loved my dish and he loved his. Price: We were FLOORED with how reasonable the prices are especially considering the location. Definitely worth every penny. Overall we LOVED this place and will be making it our new date night spot.
My family and I eat here often but we were very disappointed last Thursday, to receive our food like this…. Brown stewed chicken w/ beans and rice lukewarm and cabbage came ice cold. My spouses jerk chicken was also lukewwrm and dry. No freshness to any of it. This was a clear indication that we were served leftovers, which is unacceptable. To top it off, The only solution the waitress offered to fix the situation was to warm it up in microwave. Well that made the cabbage very soft. This was ridiculous! If I wanted leftovers I would have stayed home. Unacceptable!
We’re from Lake Worth, FL, and met up with a family friend in Jacksonville who was adamant we try Irie Diner. We had dinner together there, and honestly—it felt like a family meal. I had the curry chicken with roti and a sorrel to drink. It’s the first time a restaurant meal has reminded me of my mother’s cooking. That hit deep. The food was full of flavor, comforting, and just felt right. Chef Marko—much respect. You can taste the care and tradition in every bite. Peter, the owner, was warm and welcoming. He made the rounds, talked with guests (including us), and even put on some Kes to set the vibe. The staff was attentive and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. This is the kind of spot that stays with you. Next time we’re in Jax, we already know where we’re going.
I had such high hopes for this place. The atmosphere was nice. It looked and smelled clean. The customer service was great. I was totally disappointed with the taste and quantity of the food portion. The jerk did not taste like jerk. The rice wasn't fresh. It was hard and tasteless. The stew chicken flavorless. I WISHED ID CHECK MY FOOD BEFORE LEAVING. I paid about $30 for jerk chicken and rice, I received RICE,plantain, and what appears to be a sliver of chicken. I am truly disappointed!
The food was delicious. The best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had! I got the Puerto Rican shrimp with cabbage and sweet potatoes. Wife got Jamaican jerk chicken, Mac and cheese, and red beans and rice. Can’t believe that they’ve been there for 7 years and we’ve never been. We’ll be back.
