Purchased my first hat here, and although I love the hat, after I paid for it and had a new band put on, I found it they had sold me the display hat. There were at least five boxes with new ones available. I am nit sure if it was the last one in my size, but I am almost sure that it wasn’t. I felt very uncomfortable addressing this, the store was full and I felt embarrassed to ask if it was possible to exchange it for a new one. The letters inside the band are faded like someone owners it, most likely from so many trying it on. Hoping I can go back and ask them for an exchange.
Paris Hatters is an old-school, full service hat and boot shop that has never forgotten what customer service means. Both my wife and I have bought here. They have an interesting staff that are friendly and very knowledgeable about their products. These are folks who take time to talk with you and not just try to push you to buy. A wonderful place to buy a Western Wear product you will love.
I stopped by Paris Hatters recently to look for a Stetson Open Road in Silverbelly. After standing in the store for a few minutes without being acknowledged, I mentioned up front that I likely needed a larger size and asked if they had any in stock. I was told they didn’t have any and wouldn’t for several months. I then asked if I could be measured to at least get a sense of my size for future reference, but was told they don’t measure because “all hats are different.” I also asked about the possibility of ordering one, but received the same response that nothing would be available for months. I understand that inventory can be limited, especially for popular styles and larger sizes. That part didn’t bother me. What was surprising was the lack of engagement—no sizing, no discussion of fit, and no guidance on ordering or alternatives. Given Paris Hatters’ long-standing reputation in San Antonio, I was expecting a more hands-on and informative experience. This felt more like a quick dismissal than a customer interaction. I may try again another time, but this visit didn’t reflect the level of service I had heard so much about.
This place has excellent service. And the sense of tradition, respect for history, and expertise for the artistry of a well-made hat is out of this world. I got to meet Myrna (I hope I spelled it right) when I walked through the door. I didn’t know anything about what I was getting myself into but she walked me through the process patiently. She helped me understand the advantages of various hat materials as opposed to others. She also shared the incredible history that this establishment has with important figures and in the hat world in general. It was incredible. Garrett helped me get the exact right fit. He was hands on, polite, and very precise. Alex told me some very cool stories about the store and answered my questions about other styles of hats I was curious about. I left there (and so did my friend) with an incredible hat and feeling so excited about my purchase. Moreover, I learned how to care for my hat thoroughly so that it would last a lifetime. I love this place. Thank you Paris Hatters.
This is my first negative review and I hate that I’m writing it, but this experience really put a damper on what was supposed to be a special moment. My fiancé surprised me for my birthday weekend with a trip to Paris Hatters so he could buy me my first Stetson — something I’ve dreamed about since we moved to Texas. We’re moving soon, so he wanted it to be a memorable kickoff to the weekend. From the moment we walked in, we were largely ignored, which honestly didn’t bother me much. My fiance and I look much younger than we actually are so we’re used to that service. What did become uncomfortable was the interaction once I asked to try on a hat. Since customers can’t handle the hats without assistance, an associate helped me pull it from the shelf. However, every time I adjusted it slightly, she repeatedly came over and shoved the hat down very low on my forehead to the point where I could barely see. It was like she was getting a kick out of it..going out of her way to do it (I definitely give off the stereotypical ‘pretend cowgirl’ vibes). She must’ve done it 10 times. I understand there may be a traditional way to wear these hats, but I mentioned multiple times that I couldn’t even see, and it kept happening. When I asked for a mirror to see how it looked, I was directed to one behind several people where a man was actively steaming hats, which made it awkward to even step over them and look. I eventually found another small mirror, but I’m fairly tall and the mirrors were quite low, so it was difficult to actually get a good sense of how the hat looked. Whenever I asked questions or mentioned things I wasn’t completely sure about, the associate responded in a way that felt dismissive — repeatedly emphasizing how the hats are “authentic” and handmade rather than helping me figure out what I liked. I already felt a bit rushed making such an expensive decision, especially since this was a gift from my fiancé, so I said I’d like to think about it and possibly come back after breakfast. I was almost certain I was going to purchase the hat there — I just wanted a moment to breathe, maybe compare the style with a few others online and see how the hat I liked looked on others (especially since the mirror in the store made it hard to tell). I simply asked if she could tell me the name of the hat so I could remember it. Her response completely shocked us. She told me they weren’t allowed to disclose that information and that if I wanted to be a “serious buyer,” and ever get my hands on that hat again that I’d have to come back and see them — delivered with a very snarky tone and an eye roll before she walked away. My fiancé, I, and even another customer standing nearby were stunned. It was such an unnecessarily rude end to what should have been a really fun and memorable purchase experience. We had specifically come to this store because of its reputation and the idea of buying a hat in person — getting it fitted, steamed, and being part of that tradition. Instead, we left feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. It’s unfortunate because I still love the hat itself, but the experience made it hard to want to return.
I bought this one New Years day from the nice man at Paris Hatters. I'm pleased with it.
Loved this place. I walked in and was greeted by Isaac who showed me several different hats and styles before recommending the straw Stetson Open Roads hat. He explained why it fit me and I am so appreciative. All the negative comments for this place are silly. Just follow the rules and you’ll be well taken care of. Isaac let me try in a couple different hats with zero issue. He did a great job making sure I got the right hat. Thanks Isaac and thank you Paris Hatters!
Visited San Antonio this past July and was fortunate enough to see the most Amazing hat store! Alexandra introduced me to my first Stetson. It caught my eyes at first glance. Alexandra said it was a custom hat. It had the most beautiful blue hue color with a feather band. I knew I had to have it. Alexandra is the most precious person that has that sparkle in her eyes when she talks about her hats. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the store and find that amazing hat that's meant just for you. And if you're lucky enough to see Alexandra you might just catch that sparkle like I did.
This place is awesome. Abe was so personable and friendly. He not only helped us decide what looked best, he posed for photos and is a very nice person. The Pantera fan who helped my husband and son was amazing. Thank you! The hats are gorgeous and there are so many to choose from. Stop by this place and shop!
This was supposed to be a special birthday experience, and instead it turned into one of the most uncomfortable and disappointing retail interactions. My sister and her fiancé drove hours specifically to visit this store because she had her heart set on purchasing a high-end hat, something meaningful before he leaves for a military deployment. It was a surprise he had set up for her birthday. They fully intended to buy, not just browse. While trying on hats, the mirrors were occupied by another group, so she asked for the name of a style she tried on so she could look it up and see how it was worn. Instead of helping, the female staff member immediately accused her of trying on hats in-store just to purchase them elsewhere. This assumption made no sense, especially because the hat wasn’t even listed on their website, so there was no way for her to look it up there anyway. She then dismissed them and they drove home empty handed on her birthday. It’s also concerning to see a pattern in how negative feedback is handled here on Google. Rather than acknowledging customer experiences, responses come across as defensive and unwilling to take accountability. That kind of approach discourages trust and makes potential customers think twice which I think they should. There are plenty of places that offer high-quality products and treat customers with respect. Unfortunately, this was not one of them.
