Incredibly helpful people here! We’re getting back into brewing and one of the folks behind the counter kindly volunteered 15+ minutes of his time to walk us through the various brew kettle options and fermentation tanks. Would definitely recommend FH Steinbart to anyone!
They let you do your thing but remain available to help if you need it. It's a very easy environment. They have all the stuff too and lots of malts.
The staff here are the most knowledgable and patient retail staff I've ever encountered. Even when I showed up ten minutes before closing and ask all sorts of beginner questions, I was given extensive and unhurried answers. I wish record stores were this welcoming. I've visited three times, interacted with three different staff members, and each has been as sweet and attentive as could be. They also seem to have no interest in upselling. I'll keep going back for sure.
I've been a very happy customer since 2009. I now live in Nampa Id. and they ship to me in less than 3 days. Quality and selection is great. If your in to home brewing try them, you'll be happy.
Such a huge fan of this shop. I've been shopping here since I moved to Portland—they're always helpful and informative without making you feel like a dummy. I've been especially grateful for their pick up and online service during COVID, when brewing is all that keeps us sane. If you're just starting to homebrew, this is the spot for you. If you've been brewing for a while, you already know how great F.H. Steinbart is.
Very good brew store. I've visited five other stores in the area, but I keep coming back to Steinbart's - why? First, their selection is awesome. I typically don't have to worry whether they will have something in stock. Also, prices are reasonable. The staff are pretty great about walking me through a recipe to make sure I'm prepared to make the beer. They have pre-made kits for people just starting out, too. I had one beer that didn't take off and thought it was possibly a yeast issue - they just gave me another bag for free. This is pretty great, especially considering temperature is usually the culprit (not yeast). Let's just call it what it is: the best brew store in Portland.
As someone who’s new to brewing, home brew stores can be quite intimidating. Bruce was probably the best example of customer service I’ve ever experienced. He took time to show me how things work at the store and walked me through a few new recipe ideas to try. The store also has a great selection of supplies and ingredients. I’ll definitely be a customer for life at this point.
Very knowledgeable staff, friendly, and the pricing is great! I bought everything I needed to make 7 gallons of wine and vinager for under 50 dollars! Better deals than Amazon! Shout out to Elliot who answered every question I had, thank you!
Must have had a different guy than some of these other reviewers. Totally fine helping me with beginner questions like, "should I use yeast nutrients? Would you use this honey?" Showed me where things were, and didn't snob it up when I told them I'd used distiller's yeast on my first batch of mead. Prices seemed comparable to elsewhere, though I'll admit I don't have a ton of scale to make that judgement.
Very helpful staff they have everything you need. Did an online order it was ready in an hour super great turn around time. Also purchased a kit before the person helping me answered all my questions.
