Just started brewing again. This was my first tome back in probably 5 years. I needed my CO2 tank filled and they couldn't do it for me. I checked the website first. Didn't see that their draught department is closed on Sundays. Seems like a waste of manpower to have half a dozen employees standing around with nothing to do and still not fill my gas for me. They need to make it obvious on the their web page what services they offer on what days.
Stopped by today to get some pellet hops I couldn't find anywhere else. Since they are near my work it seemed like a no brainer. Since I don't buy supplies there often, I told the woman at the counter that needed some pellet hops. I was met with a rude "AND ???". After a few moments she explained that they are in a refrigerator in the back which is self-serve. That seems like a pretty simple thing to say to someone who tells you want they want to buy. I am giving this review 2 stars instead of 1 because she tried to be helpful after the counter incident.
I have purchased 2 extract kits. New to brewing. Both are easy to complete, instructions are very thorough and the beer is outstanding. American Amber and Red Ale so far. Waiting on ymy 3rd kit to arrive Gorgan Slayer.
I've been going to Steinbart's ever since my wife bought me a homebrewing kit for 25 Christmases ago. It's always been a friendly place to shop, and they've adapted well to Covid restrictions. Over the years they've continued to update their offerings, keeping the stand-bys and adding new items. And there's no better or more knowledgeable staff in any kind of business.
Hands down my favorite homebrew shop! I always find what I need here and they are genuinely friendly and helpful. If I can't find something there is always someone there to help me track down what I'm looking for. I am usually in a rush since I work during their business hours, they helped me gather up the ingredients I needed so I was in and out of there in no time on my lunch. I also keg my beer, so it is extremely helpful that they also have a draft department with every draft part and setup you can image. They also fill CO2 tanks! There are two homebrew shops closer to home for me, but I will always make the extra drive to Steinbart's.

The best service. Came for Will Call pickup (only thing you can do with COVID lockdown) and a CO2 fill (10lb tank). Gas dispensing machine was down and couldn't fill tank so I gave up on the idea and went on to other errands thinking I'd come back days later when fixed. Got a call from Ryan shortly after saying they had solved the problem if I was still in the area (which I was). He had looked up my info from my Will Call and made that effort. *That* is service. This after having a great talk with Todd from the Draft Dept. earlier in the week.
The staff was not only knowledgeable but extremely friendly and helpful. I found no examples of them being condescending whatsoever. My recommendation to any level of homebrewer is to go in, ask questions and enjoy the company. I live in Medford and I will continue business with this company through their website. Thank you all for the hospitality.
Awesome store, so friendly and very helpful. I went to two other stores and prices were close to double, plus these guys were super friendly and gave me a 2 for 1 which amazed me not even posted. They have my vote!
My favorite homebrew shop in Portland (and there are several good ones). Best selection of specialty grains I've seen anywhere. Comprehensive rotation of hops and several yeasts, from multiple providers. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, excellent selection of accessories, adjuncts, cleaning supplies, and equipment. During pandemic times, will take an order over the internet and have the brew supplies ready for pickup, typically on the same day.
