Going to UOP has been a challenge. Only having 4 classes to go. In my 7th week of Math class, I did not post two discussion for two of the weeks to find out they withdraw me from class. How can this happen? I have never heard of such in my days. Only having two weeks to go to be withdrawn. I was passing class with a B+, my instructor said nothing, nor my academic advisor. A manager contacted me to say I can retake this class for free of charge. Previously I had to retake an elective class (IT) due to failing it. I compliant the entire time when taking this IT class, because it was so hard I felt like I could become a specialist in IT. The advisor stated to me he received a lot of complaints regarding this elective. Phoenix is not about students receiving degrees. If someone could please help me with how I can stay in class without a retake I would greatly appreciate it.
I being a Military Veteran, as well as a former graduate of a few other colleges, would not recommend this institution to veterans as well as anyone else for that matter. From my experience it seems as if this college is more so for profit rather than providing a quality education, compared to my past educational endeavors. I personally was awarded FAFSA benefits back in January of this year and as of today 05/06/20 have not been rewarded a dispersement from U of P. Instead the financial aid department will come up with many different excuses, so called errors on your financial documents as well as repeatedly request you to resubmit the same paper work over and over again. It seems they are very good at kicking the can down the road and having you the student to continue jumping through hoops to hold on to your grant. Buyer beware.
I am currently enrolled in Phoenix and may end up dropping it altogether. I would like to clarify at the beginning of this post that I am a diligent, hard-working student but my lifestyle is also busy with religion and work. I currently hold a GPA of 3.84 and I have about 10 classes left to finish my schooling. I am a working adult. However, because of my major apparently I am REQUIRED to take certain online courses, which are more expensive and MUST be taken online due to not having them at any campuses near where I live or even remotely close. Phoenix is not only expensive for the convenience of the schedule on-campus, but their online courses completely contradict everything about being convenient for the working-class individual. It is impossible for me to comment every day or every couple days online about a topic and elaborate on it and possibly not even get the substantial comment to count towards my participation! I requested the class I am in now to be on-campus instead of online and they said it was not available. This was never made clear to me when I first signed on with UoP that there could be online classes filling in for the on-campus classes which are not available. I was under the impression from the enrollment counselor that if I wanted on-campus classes then that is what I will get 100%, since online classes are about 500$-700$ more per class. On top of all of this my major will be incomplete in a sense when I finish because they are not providing me with everything that I need to work in this field. I will need to take supplemental classes to get by afterwards to make up for these massive gaps of training. These lacks of classes being provided to me were not clear until I knew more about my major from taking the classes. After I knew a little more about my major I started asking questions like "will this be provided to me in a class?" And they kept saying "no". What a joke. Would I recommend University of Phoenix? No. My thought is that they need to 1. Change their curriculum to a real-world setup with new information and 2. Actually cater to individuals who want campus classes and those who don't reasonably. Or at least make them aware that online classes may happen and that they cost much more than a regular class on-campus. Jared Davis
Not a veteran (GI Bill) friendly school. The way attendance is counted guarantees you will not receive your full monthly entitlement from the VA. There is no actual break between classes, but the way UoP reports it, you have 1 week off between classes, even though it is a normal homework week and identical in work load to any other week. They know this screws the veteran and shorts their monthly entitlement yet their only response is “it’s policy”. They cannot explain how this policy is logical nor will they even try. UOP has also changed the way they handle Pell Grants disbursements that screws veterans over. My courses are guaranteed to be paid for by the VA. However, UoP will keep your Pell Grant disbursement from you until the VA has made payment, as if they are afraid of not being paid by the government. Their need to hold your funds for security from the government, outweighs your need for them to complete your program. I was told I would not receive my final disbursement until the VA pays for my final class. This means I will receive a Pell Grant disbursement 2 months after graduating, how does that make sense? When I asked finance, they stuttered and agreed that it was a bad policy, yet they had no power to fix it. It’s a business more so than it is a school, keep that in mind if you can’t figure out why they would enact so many illogical or unfriendly student policies. I look forward to the VA pulling your eligibility UOP. Have fun fighting the US Government in court. I’m not surprised at all that the Federal Trade Commission has accused UoP in engaging in deceptive recruiting and advertising practices. UoP paid $191 million to settle, so save the claims of innocence. UoP is about the least veteran friendly organization I have ever worked with. I completed a BSB there but I do not recommend this “school” to anyone.
I am a UoP student and I graduate next year. Although the reason I gave five stars was because not of the behavior of faculty at the university, but because of the resources readily available to student s, so that we are eventually successful both at the University and in the real world. You are allowed to review any past classroom 4ever, and the platform in which the University embraces is beyond sufficient. There is a chance of getting an unethical professor, but could that happen at any school? In addition, the upper faculty could really do something about the finance department, very rude people.
My experience was actually very positive. My instructors were highly educated in the field of social services. They were helpful in my journey and I recieved help immediately regarding any academic concerns I had. I noticed people that give UOP a bad name are just hating on the school due to thier own self victimization. Of course, it's going to be expensive, it's only like 15 to 20 people in each class! Sometimes even less than that due to people dropping out. I feel like the cost was worth it because the instructor has more time to engage thier students. Also, to give instructive feedback. I just want to say whoever is considering going to this school, don't take people's words as gold and see for yourself. Going to this school is a journey and you will have your ups and downs. It's not a easy ride, going through this school. The curriculum is challenging and whoever said online education was easy is a complete lie. Just don't give up and push through. I love the concept of this school because after you graduate you have sooo many opportunities to find work. You raise from the ashes just like a Phoenix. It's many other benefits from this school that you check out if your interested. God Bless
BEWARE… DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL…University Of Phoenix isn’t truthful getting prospects to become students. I’ve caught them in several lies. Their financial aid department is full of hogwash. Once they realized I know FA due to me having over 10 years of experience in it, then the truth starts to come out. I had to tell them to stop telling me vague information. Once I began using fa language and told them I had already contacted DOE, they wanted to try communicating better. I’m over it and my student experience has been hell and causes lots of stress. I’ve been to other institutions that I’ve obtained degrees from and this has been the worst.
I enrolled at this school a couple years ago. I was going to go to a local community college and had gotten accepted there with all the different processes completed. Well come to find out they didn’t have the class that I wanted to start of in so I decided I would go with the U of P. It took well over a month of them arguing saying that I didn’t have the right paperwork and I couldn’t start classes until I had them. Keep in mind those were the exact same papers that had gotten me into the other school. One day they say okay you start your classes in a couple weeks. I was confused because they had just finished telling me my financial process hadn’t gone through and I was about to go back to the other school. I figured well maybe they figured out that those were the papers I needed after all. I started class and a month goes by and I get a phone call from the financial advisor saying that I have to take a leave of absence since my paperwork was invalid. They stopped my classes and it then became hard to get into contact with my personal financial advisor for this school. After months of trying to get a hold of them and months of trying to find the correct paperwork I gave up. Nothing was said afterwards and I didn’t get any paperwork from them until around a year later saying that they had turned my file over to a collections agency because I didn’t pay what I owed. All the while I hadn’t heard from them and I couldn’t get a hold of the advisor that knew my file. Everyone else would “direct me to the right person” but I would be put on hold until my phone died. At that point I was pretty pissed off. Several months back I tried to get a loan for a house I’m remodeling and this came up as a private loan and the teller said that he wasn’t sure I would qualify for such loan because of this. Not only had it put a hold on me furthering my education but on the rest of my life too. I wasn’t given the opportunity to back out before the class started and they had me under the impression that everything was ready to go and the financial process had been taken care of. Guys I’m telling you. If school isn’t enough drama I’d say stay away from this system cause it will screw you over with a smile.
It was been a LONG 3 1/2 almost 4 years at this zoo that is referred to as a University. First off, the academic and financial counselors are horrid. What's the point in having an assigned counselor when they barely pick up the phone or respond to emails, and you are re-directed to another counselor every time your appointed one doesn't answer?! Bogus. Secondly, the classes. I went to campus classes for 3 yrs. Honestly, I have learned pretty much of nothing throughout my time at UOP. The books/curriculum is shot. The only semi-good thing was that most of the teachers worked in my field of study and provided insight into what it would be like working in the profession I was aiming toward. In addition, half of the students could barely write a complete sentence, which made it hard for me to work with some people in learning teams. The online classes were pretty easy. Luckily I only had to work in a learning team for 1 class which made it a lot easier. But, in my LAST online class before I graduated, my teacher (ELISA DOEBLER-IRVINE --- RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS CHICK) decided to report me for plagiarism. She clearly didn't know what the hell she was talking about because for one, she was a horrible teacher who barely even read student papers, let alone knew about the curriculum for that class. Two, her tone and demeanor toward me were very disrespectful throughout the 5 weeks we communicated online, which led me to believe she was just out to get me. With that being said, their grading system is FLAWED. This caused me to receive a written warning which I was pissed about, as I have never had an issue with a teacher throughout my academic journey. Lastly, the financial aid. This school is too damn expensive for my degree to be looked at as the equivalent of a degree from a fake-ass university. I'm neck deep in debt thanks to them and I have nothing to show for it but a degree that will barely get me into the graduate school of my choice. This school is all about money, not brightening the future of their students. If you are thinking about going to this school ... THINK AGAIN.
Love the interaction with staff and the students. Being an alumni and a current student has provided me with transitional opportunities within my company as well as expanded network and partnership. Thankful for the opportunity of the teachers and staff who assisted me in the process of of enrolling in the masters program. I am looking forward to completing the program to advance my professional and educational goals.
