I had somebody tell me that her mother was French and many bakeries don't take the time to make croissants properly (2 days). She recommended this bakery highly and a croissant with a foamy cappuccino. I ordered the plain croissant and savory pastry and drip coffee. They were so good that when the waiter said his go to was the cappuccino and chocolate croissant.....I had that for dessert. Excellent! Delicious. Worth it. :-)

Great location before or after an Arboretum walk. Outdoor dining area is another quiet Madison ave retreat - that no one seems to know about. Maybe I’m just there when it’s not busy. Really good fare, may seem pricey but taste, quality and local ownership makes it worth it. The place really adds to the neighborhood with how they keep up the front appearance.

UPDATE:The owner pointed out that there is designated parking spaces on the both of the alley which I did not realize despite of the sign. So, I'm correcting the information here. I had house chai and a dessert. They were busy and had to wait for a while to get my drink. Chai was excellent! Not too sweet. My dessert was tasty as well. They have outdoor seating in the back as well as small sections of indoor seating.

Very cozy! Super nice service. The mushroom bisque was amazingly creamy.

Dirty floors, slow service despite multiple staff only on really doing anything. Price point is way off. The audacity to charge $14 for a sandwich that is evidently soggy and not toasted.

Although not pictured, I did infact get am opera cake from here. It was delicious and shareable. Depending on your sweet tooth and portion size. I say modestly it can be shared between 2-4 people. The cake was light, with a smooth consistency. Chocolate is not too rich because I have a sneeze indicator. The higher the percentage in dark chocolate the higher the likelihood I am to sneeze. I was just on the verge and typically happens somewhere between 70% and above. Anyways I recommend coming here and trying their offerings. I was eyeing a pistachio croissant they have so I might be back again to try that. Aside from that, service wise I had no complaints. Parking can get tricky since it's just street parking.

Regrettably, Belle Epicurean has gone downhill. The variety of items available has shrunk. Our sandwich today was made from a chewy, stale baguette. The twice-baked almond croissant was unappetizing. And the prices have gone way up. Thankfully, the service was nice. We'll be looking elsewhere for coffee and pastries.

Every time I give this place a shot I’m disappointed. Staff is making you feel unwanted, pastries priced at premium rates yet very small and enhanced with extracts instead of real ingredients for flavor. Was even served moldy cake once with minimal apology. Location is convenient and my kids’ school uses them for meetups, or else I would have avoided completely.

First time came to this bakery. We ordered chai tea, almond croissant and quiches. Chai tea has too much form only half left. Many bake good selections. They have wine section where you can sit and enjoy your coffee.

In general, I love having this place close by. They have some good breakfast sandwiches and I used to like the matcha latte. I will note that I just went and ordered one as usual and the barista there did not seem to make it as good as they had in the past. Instead of a nice smooth latte it was thick green sludge with big grains no hint of milk. I hate asking for things to be remade but it was undrinkable so I asked if there was something she could do. She quickly remade it and it was slightly better but still grainy. I think they are skipping the step where they whisk it into water to smooth it out. The frustrating part is of course I got some attitude for even asking, which I never do. All that to say....skip the matcha latte as there are better places to get that drink unless they train their baristas better on that drink. Otherwise, the other drinks have been decent.
