Wells Automotive Service

I was dispatched to Wells Automotive through my roadside assistance for a dead battery and was charged a mandatory $200 service fee for a basic jump-start visit. That price is wildly inflated for what is typically a routine, low-cost service. There was no meaningful transparency about the total cost upfront, and I was told the fee applied regardless of whether anything was actually fixed. For customers already paying for roadside assistance coverage, this feels like being double-charged. The technician himself was fine, but the pricing structure is unreasonable and predatory. I would strongly recommend confirming pricing in writing before agreeing to service—or better yet, using a different provider entirely.

I never leave bad reviews but this business and its brainless office lady not only left me stranded 2.5 hours after quoting 60 mins waiting for a jump in BELOW FREEZING TEMPS, but after she misquoted and charging me for the “wrong” battery, once I was upset about the surprise upcharge, she refused to replace with a new battery at her higher price, even after I pleaded for it like an idiot, she refused to let the service person do his job just so she could feel like she was “in charge” . Pathetic excuse for a business and its operations. Avoid this place like the plague. —- Update - Do not listen to their reply, I did get mad but I still wanted and pleaded for the service but I didn’t curse at them until they refused to change my battery and left my mom stranded after waiting 2.5 hours. You guys are clowns! I’ve already reported you to Geico for your lack of professionalism.

I was connected to this company through my insurance roadside assistance and Benjamin was a rockstar. There was a minor delay but it was largely due to Benjamin ensuring he leaves roadside jobs fully serviced. He swapped me to a spare tire, made sure I was topped off on air with my donut, and answered all my questions around precautions for driving on a donut. I am not sure who the office lady was that I spoke with but she was incredible too. She was friendly and despite just starting her shift for the day was able to get me updated ETA info. Might just go direct with these folks in the future for roadside assistance. Thank you for your help friends!

I am so pleases with my service for our car. As part of our roadside service with state farm, they sent out the service repairman. He arrive quickly like around 30 minutes. He let us know that it would be best not to jump start the battery as it was old and wouldn't last much longer. He let us know we could purchase one threw his company. He also let us know we could reimburses some of it as well. He was very helpful and considerate. I would recommend them to anyone for services whether on the road or at their place of business.

Great experience. It’s nice to work with a company that understands and gets the job done right. They worked with me and game me some grace in a situation that they could have taken advantage of. I’ll go back any time if I need work done.

Complete and total scam, stay away. I called trying to get someone to come out and swap out a flat tire for me. They said I would get a text message with a payment link and hung up. I waited for an hour for the damn text message and I never got it. I called back and they said that they never got the payment so they canceled the order. I then paid over the phone and waited at another 40 minutes for the guy to show up. When he showed up, he told me that even though I wasn’t informed about this that they cannot and they’re not allowed to inflate spare tires and mine is completely deflated because this is how it comes with my model car. At that point I take out my own air pump and I pump up the flat tire to make it down the street to the local Midas shop. Then I call trying to get a refund because in the end I inflated my own tire pretty much and they didn’t do the service I called them for. The boss refused to do a refund saying that because the guy came out that was considered the service. This is why they’re getting this review and they’re getting a credit card dispute and they are also going to hear from the Attorney General’s office. Stay away from this scam outfit.

Really disappointed with my experience here. I came in for a simple tire plug and after the work was already done, they tried to charge me $64. I actually work in the car industry, so I understand labor, overhead, and pricing and that’s exactly why that number didn’t make sense for a basic plug. When I politely questioned it, the guy at the counter immediately got defensive and started yelling instead of explaining the pricing. Then out of nowhere he says he’ll “just do it for free,” but followed it up with “you’re not welcome back” and “don’t ever come back.” Completely unprofessional and unnecessary. The only positive part of the visit was the younger kid who worked on my tire he was polite, respectful, and handled everything professionally. I appreciate him for that. But between trying to charge me that price after the job was finished and the way I was spoken to, I definitely won’t be returning. Customers deserve transparency and respect.

I needed a battery replacement for a car stuck in a parking garage. Wells sent out Robert within the hour. Robert was incredibly nice and efficient in not only the replacement of the battery but also cleaning the corrosion which had built up from the old battery. 10/10 would recommend.

Broke down in the Loop while visiting Chicago from out of state. They showed up in less than 30. Pleasant and friendly driver. Frank at the shop was straightforward and fast to check on the car. When it was obvious we weren’t going to be driving that car home they made sure we got to Millennium Station without issue at the hands of another very lovely employee!

Tow was ordered by Tesla roadside. Wells dispatcher was very quick and polite and a truck showed up in under an hour. My driver Terrell was a stand up guy. Incredibly quick and great at what he does. Unlike every other tow I’ve ordered, he took care of my car and managed to get it loaded up without a scratch. He also had a jump pack and helped me get my dead car unlocked so I could get my stuff out.
