I cannot recommend Wells Automotive Service highly enough. As a newcomer to Chicago, I had a flat tire and AAA directed me to WAS for a replacement. I not only received prompt service, but also during a routine inspection of the vehicle, the mechanics fixed a long-standing issue with my engine. My car was washed and cleaned as part of the repair. Unparalleled expertise, friendly service, and efficient communication are what you will find here.
My car wouldn't start, so I filed a roadside assistance request with my insurance. They dispatched someone from Wells Automotive who arrived pretty quickly. The technician moved pretty fast, and I wish I had slowed everything down to ask questions or if I had options. When your car doesnt turn on though, and you're late for work that's not really where your head is at though. He said something that batteries should be replaced every couple years and that mine was probably past due **He did not test my battery and say it was dead. He did not diagnose that the battery was the issue** He immediately went about replacing the battery, and then told me to start the car. Before I started my car, someone from Wells Automotive called me to collect the payment-- it seemed strange to me, but in the interest of keeping everything moving I paid it. After it was paid, I went to start my car with the technician still present. My car did not start. The technician never stopped packing up, and said "well, you must have something else going on with your car-- if you get it towed somewhere I have a reliable place". Okay so.... if I didn't need the battery replaced, why did all of that just take place? I called back to Wells Automotive after to express my frustration, and they just said they didn't offer refunds. I really didn't want a refund, I just should never have been charged. An honest and reputable business should recognize that. This is place is not either of those things. Buyer beware.
The service guy came to jump my car and didn’t get it started. Then wanted to sell me a battery for $518. He also said that it could have been the alternator. Once he left I called another company and the gentleman came and jump my car within 5 minutes. Just a HUSTLER.
Although I don’t like how much I end up paying there, I do appreciate Frank and the staff for their transparency and direct communication! So they’ll be my go to car shop. My dad gives Frank the approval too LOL.
They are a scam. They will tell you to get a tow truck with companies who have workman’s comp. Then they will tell you it’s ok call your company. When they arrive they block the entrance so your tow truck doesn’t come out. Then you have to pay them $200
One of the most established mechanics in the city of Chicago and one of the best. It doesn't matter the problem Well Automotive can help. That seems harder and harder to find but look no further, you'll find it here.
I had a flat tire and this company was dispatched through my roadside assistance. The technician that assisted me was able to get the tire replaced but struggled to change it using a tiny 1 ton jack instead of a 2.5 ton or higher for larger vehicles. He had to jack it from the front of my Lexus NX (which is not really a large vehicle) since the 1 ton jack couldn’t get it off the ground from the side frame. It would be nice to see better equipment being used for more efficient and safer service to the client. It really puts into question the reliability of their other services offered if they can’t carry the right size jack at minimum. Thankfully the technician was able to change it, but I was extremely nervous about damage to the vehicle. I will say the technician came out quickly and helped me with such a kind demeanor. Cudos to Arthur for helping me out.
Had a dead battery and my insurance dispatched Wells. After an hour and a half, I called them to see if they were still coming and they said they were an additional 45 minutes out (2h 15 total). 15 minutes later, my insurance called me to say that Wells had marked the job as complete even though nobody came. An absolutely horrible experience and I still had a dead battery at the end of it.
Make sure you remove everything from your vehicle before they tow it. They stole item out of my truck once it was towed after an accident. They will steal your items!! Be aware!
My regular visits at Wells keep me informed of routine service needs and potential or actual issues. As my (reliable) car ages, more things need attention. Frank is the rare and valuable businessperson who understands true customer service. He doesn’t push to perform costly service ahead of schedule. He's attentive to keeping me safe and letting me know what needs immediate attention, and what can wait. That makes me eager to continue being a customer, knowing that I’ll get honest, well-informed advice. When a major repair is advised I’m confident that it’s not an attempt to make a fast buck, and I know it will be done carefully and professionally. All the staff I’ve encountered reflect Frank's high standards. It’s a pleasure to do business here, and it reminds me of the old-fashioned family-run service station my parents patronized for decades.
