if there was a 'Zero' star I would say ZERO!!!! horrible customer service - wrong item was delivered ( after months of waiting for arm chair) and had it put right back into the delivery truck and then never heard back from them.... only to get 20 run around emails ... when I stopped payment with Amex, they then said they would refund but i needed to lift the hold payment.... and so i did have Amex lift the hold.... then never heard from them again- and looks like their Oregon warehouse/showroom is now 'temporary close" NO WONDER!!! so so many complaints on Reddit too.
Schoolhouse has a great selection of vintage inspired lighting fixtures made right here in Portland. The craftmanship and quality are top notch and the prices are reasonable, unlike the other local restoration lighting & hardware store in town.
Poor customer service and inventory management. Ordered lights during the Black Friday sale and order was canceled by Schoolhouse without communication (after asking I was told the items were out of stock). Frustratingly, the items are listed online as in stock and shipping in a few weeks (obviously not on sale).
I got to go on a factory tour of the building and it was awesome seeing the behind the scenes of how most of their products are made on site. Their prices reflect their attention to detail, craftsmanship, and of course it's made in the USA. Beautiful store, beautiful new cafe, awesome staff. 5 stars from me
I am so conflicted in writing this review. They have beautiful items and the quality is great. That being said, I’ve never dealt with customer service like this before. I placed an enormous order three weeks ago for a bunch of in stock items. Nothing has shipped yet and when I reach out to inquire, I keep getting replies thanking me for my patience and not providing any information. First, they told me that in stock means that items will ship within 10 days. So 10 days go by, and nothing has shipped…so I reached out again. I tried calling and leaving a voicemail and have gotten no reply. I am a licensed interior designer and I work with dozens of companies and I’ve never dealt with anything like this. Other people have speculated that they outsourced their customer service and that must be the case. Super unfortunate because I wanna be a client and continue shopping there, but there is no accountability or customer service.
I'm so sad to write this review because Schoolhouse Electric started out as such a great company -- crafting simple, quality lights that no one else was making at the time. Since being bought by Food52, the soul is just gone. Customer service is outsourced and useless. I recently ordered over $10K of lighting for an interior design project and needed to modify one element of the order, and COULD NOT get in touch with a human or anything competent. It was a strange loop of emails that never went anywhere. And now my order is delayed and stuck in processing, I guess? Not sure. No phone number to call, the store is only open on the weekends. It's like no one is running the ship over there, and it's super sad. Squandering a really viable opportunity, and I hate to see it.
Paid my first trip here after being a die-hard fan of the online brand. It was great to see products in person. I hope they will eventually come to Seattle. Sales reps were friendly and helpful.
Great store with design constantly updating. Been using their products for years for both clients and personally with very minor issues (duvet stitching came apart quickly but an easy repair). I was actually just there to place an order for a discontinued lamp shade to match one already purchased and the process was simple. It actually arrived a few days later (Seattle). ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Avoid buying online from this company. I placed an order during their sale and they did not include a wall sconce I ordered in the shipment. It was on the paper packing list but not the box shipment itself. They were absolutely no help. They said because the shipment delivered, they did their job. I told them that I wasn’t disputing the shipment delivering, they just literally never included an item in the package. They offered no help to even just send me another sconce, let alone refund. I tried disputing but because their tracking shows as delivered, my CC company took their side. Beware ordering.
This place is the dream! If I could make my house a schoolhouse product I would. The pillows, the hardware, the throws. Everything is highest quality. And that isn't even mentioning the lighting. The people are amazing and helpful. We come here to get something every time we are in Portland. If we lived here, this place would drain us. I recommend this to anyone and everyone. They make a lot of their own products right here in Portland. Support this amazing local decor.
